What exactly is the pencil trick? I'm new to over clocking, but i'm eating everything up. I'm loving it. I just wish i had more cash i could blow to buy parts. And which is better, a low v-core or a higher v-core? Any posts are much appreciated!

i know that the best thing to do is to have a high FSB... when u make your FSB gets higher, if the system gets unstable, u should low the vcore... Although making the vcore higher, u make the cpu faster, and it gets hotter... have a good fan fot that... I'd rather raising the FSB because all the system gets faster...

Hey! Welcome to the Forums!

Let me get this out of the way first: Check out the Beginner's Guides on the front page Start Here! (http://www.overclockers.com)

The pencil trick unlocks the cpu multiplier for OCing on TBirds, but doesn't work on XPs.

Vcore is the core voltage the cpu gets: more DOES mean hotter, but also more stable when overclocking. This is more likely to damage the chip, by the way, so be careful!

Everyone around here is friendly and willing to help, but please read all the guides and stuff: it gets old answering the same questions for the 1000th time!:D

My "disclaimer": Overclocking is a lot of fun and I get a lot of satisfaction out of it, BUT you risk damage to your entire computer! Take your time and make sure you know what you are doing, and why FIRST!

And the Number 1 enemy of Overclocking is HEAT!

for me the pencil trick has been hit or miss... never had to redo them once it worked. But I never really had an AMD system running 24/7 for too long.
