I live in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and dont know whether to get cox@home cable or Bellsouth DSL. I've heard that cable is better for downloading and DSL you get better ping. No one else in my neighborhood has cox cable internet exept for my neighbor who mostly games. Please help me with ANY advice
Um, no question. Cable. Faster and you do actually get good pings. It all depends on the server your connected to. With my cable I have gotten pings as low as 45. BTW, the @home part of Cox no longer exists. ;)

Well it all depends on the what type of badwidth you are talking about. Find out what the download and upload cap is for each then compare. I have mediaone cable and my cap is at 1.5Mbps down and 300K up. This is just fine for downloading and such and I do have fairly consistent speeds but I am also trying to run a gaming server. If you want to run a server I would look into DSL because its dedicated bandwidth to you-no sharing with your neighbors. I am almost tempted to go to DSL which would lower my downloads to 1M but increase my uploads to a dedicated 640 for more bandwidth for my servers. If you don't plan on running servers go with the cable it will be faster for you especially since no one else in the neighborhood is using it.

If there is only 1 other person on the cable modem...it should be really fast. Think of cable as a HUGE network, more people=less speed. So yours should be really fast.
