For those who are unaware, I have put together a TOP NOTCH (top) "retro benching" setup since I am hooked on computers and benching, and Im a freak and absolutely must have the best of the best :)

Current setup is as follows:

Mobo: P4C800 Deluxe (best would be P4C800-E deluxe, but its a tougher find)
CPU: Varies. I bench a variety of P4s
Memory: All BH-5. 4 X 512mb of Mushkin PC3500 Black level 2, and 2 X 512mb of Teamgroup Extreme 500 mhz (PC3800???). I switch out the ram and test them all individually depending on what I am doing to see what works out best.
PSU: Corsair HX620W
GPU: Switch out a bunch of old AGP GPUs that I bench with. Currently I think I have a Maddog MC440 (or something like that) in the rig.

I also have an OCZ DDR Booster but it has not arrived yet. CPU cooling is LN2, and GPU cooling is stock. RAM cooling provided by placing either a 80mm or 120mm fan on top of them, which cools the ram itself but also all of the cold vapor from the CPU pot gets drawn down onto them cooling them even further.

BH-5 ram and s478 is before my time as a computer enthusiast and overclocker. Most of my questions are related to the ram.

How much in term of volts should I give my BH-5 sticks? I have been told on the P4C800 deluxe I should give them 3.6volts, or at least darn close to that.

How high can I expect BH-5 to overclock?

Any suggestions or links on overclocking BH-5 ram appreciated :D

TY!

Yeah 3.5-.6V is plenty for BH5, They absolutely looooooove volts.

Maybe ~DDR600 range, maybe more i'm not too familiar.

You know the most fun way to find out ;)

Lets see some LN2 on that ram while you're at it! :D

LOL how in the world can I LN2 cool ram?

That was a joke right?

Of course Im gonna test a variety of things out......try things that I think prob wont work just to test and see....but since this stuff is so far before "my time" as an OCer I wanted to get some baseline info to work with before I get too much into it.

Thanks for the info so far and keep it coming! :D

Here's how to really cool those Winbond chippies :D

How can you not appreciate this kind of effort?

i dont remember 3.4+ to be beneficial on my bh5's. its been a while, but 3.25 seemed to rock my patriots at 520-540ish 2225(could go 1.5220 but dont think it gave a difference.) it was the mushikin blues i had with winbond utt?-- that were bout just as good but liked 3.4-3.6v..

While there were samples of Winbond that stopped scaling after 3.4v-3.5v, lots of BH-5/BH-6/UTT would continue to scale up to the 4.v range.

In that linked article I posted above, plus in many other examples, guys were feeding them right up to and even beyond 4.0v. The key, of course, is being able to keep them cool.

Oh yeah, it doesn't hurt to have uber sticks, either. :D

The Mushkin PC3500 is among the best BH5 ever made. The gentleman above probably has 300 sets of those alone. Rumor has it that when Mushkin announced their clearence sale a few years ago, he bought out their entire inventory. :)

BH5/6 scales like mad with volts and active cooling. I was pumping mine with 3.7V 24/7 273MHz 2-2-2-2-1T. :D I still love the NF4-DFI setup, some of the best days in overclocking.

Now with BH6, you may need an extensive burn-in of about 48 hours to get it to match or surpass BH5. BH6 is 130nm and runs hotter than than the 110nm BH5. Reefa is probably the best guy to quiz when it comes to memory, I know I've learned a lot from him!

Unsubstantiated! I'll never admit to any of it. :D

But really S.N., I admit that I'm a fan of the stuff, but there are plenty of guys here with way more knowledge and experience than me. I'm still just learning.

You will out run that P4C long before the BH5 gives out. I'd consider up to 4v. 3.5 is just getting started. Lots of boards put out 3.2v stock. Personally I'd ditch the booster, and start modding that board. vDroop is a killer on that board. I think the ram is also feed off the 3.3v which will be a problem for you too.
