View Full Version : PS3 Problems?
I picked up a 80GB PS3 a few weeks back, and I think that it may be defective. The first issue is that the screen goes completely blank [black] when I've tried launching some DVDs, Warhawk, and F@H. It doesn't do it everytime, but it's been happening more these past few days. The second issue is that this thing is super HOT/Loud, it's making my room more than a few degrees hotter than the rest of the house.
*I Purchased Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, and am afraid that I'll lose it if I return it for another PS3. How would I be able to re-download it into my new PS3 if I do return it?

PSN allows downloads of most games up to 5 times for each PSN ID. So you should have no problem getting your game back if you decide to replace the unit. (This is how people get some games for a couple bucks off PSN. They will make a generic account and then download a game. They then will give out that generic account info to people who are willing to pay a % of the original download cost, so in a sense you are getting the a one time install of the game for a fraction of the normal price)
As for your unit. Mine is an old 60GB but in these old models noise is certianly not a concern. Heat however is, as it blows out air that is probably hot enough to to cook and egg with if you put a pan next to it.
I think it's bad y'all. I was just playing the Stranglehold demo, and the sound [optical] just started tweeking out. As soon as I powered the unit off, the problem went away. I think that I'm just gonna take it back to KMart.
Return it and get a Xbox 360.. (just kiddin)! It sounds like the Sony Blue ring of death! O_o Get it exchanged... probably just a bad unit... it happens.

I've had my 40GB PS3 since Monday played about 1hr with the 1st game I got Juiced 2 I sold it for cash today £16 but went to my local super store and bought a HDMI cable GRAW 2, SEGA Rally & COD4 for £100. 2 games for £50 instead of £35 each and COD4 was £40 HDMI cable £10 anyways I just played COD4 1st time got to level 3 act 1 and I noticed how warm it was.
Plenty of ventilation at the back the cables are also out the way can anyone tell me if there's does this the HDMI cable is not official PS3 1. When I turn on my console and I switch the TV to HDMI it sometimes say HDMI not available but clicking on it again it works. Could it be a cable thing also in GRAW 2 the game seems jaggy like poor antilising it just seems the 360 version looked better and that I was playing via component cable.
HDMI is HDMI, you do not need the official Sony ripoff HDMI cable. Also I have seen GRAW 2 on PS3, it does not look as good nor does it run at nearly as high a FPS as the Xbox 360 version.
This is due to the fact that most of the multiplatform games right now are developed for the Xbox 360 first (because Xbox 360 came out first) and then ported to the PS3, and it seems not all are ported very well. I think GRAW 2 suffers from this as well. The HDMI cable would not effect AA or FPS, again that is due to a poor port job and the PS3 architecture being so different from the Xbox 360's.
HDMI is HDMI
Not true... My bro bought a upconverting DVD recorder, and it came w/ a craptastic hdmi cable that caused his TV to tweek out. I got him a HDMI [1.3A] cable from monoprice, and the problem went away.

I have no idea what version the cable is it's a Wharfdale brand some european company that had problems with TV's blowing up 2 yrs ago. Anyways I think I will purchase a 1.3a cable just to be sure from my local games shop on Sunday.
I took it over to my GFs apartment this weekend, and it didn't act up @ all, she has the exact same Aquos as I do. I also was not online @ all since she doesn't have a wireless router. I think that my problems may be somehow connected w/ the wireless.
Has anybody had any wireless problems w/ their PS3?

I've had no problems with mine yet (*knocks on wood*)
Clarification, then... :)
A properly functioning HDMI cable of appropriate length is functionally equal to another properly functioning HDMI cable of appropriate length. :D
Have any of y'all done a speed test on the PS3 wireless? Please post up a link if you have, so I can do the exact same test.

just go to the browser and google bandwidth speed test, there are a few different ones out there. I like Speakeasy and bandwidthspeedplace the best. Personally I have found speeds on both the 360 and PS3 to be slooooooooooooooooow for downloading.
