PC slowing down after network installed

My friend had a cable modem put in. Every since he did this is computer will freeze for about 10 seconds every min or so. I used to have the same problem when I first got my DSL until I set up a dummy IP and Subnet. I am not sure if you can do that with a CABLE modem however. Is there anything that can be done to stop that slowdown, and what IS that slow down?

Whatever you did for your dsl might work with the cable as well...

However, I have no idea what would be causing your problem. I have installed my cable modem both with and without a router, with no problems at all.

Only thing I can think of is a dhcp problem.

How long has the cable connection been in?

This is an internal cable modem?

don't know too much about networking but maybe you're sharing resources with your other computers, just a thought
