So I have this friend, and he has the x700 video card. He has all the latest drivers, windows xp home, and its an agp slot x8 card. He hasnt had this problem before. So here it is: Just recently, his framerates would shoot down in some areas for no apparent reason; like when the bomb explodes, outside, etc. All the settings are on low. Any suggestions. I can provide more info upon request. =) Thanks!

Bump, and sorry about the sloppy post. I was in a hurry to post it before school so I could get some replys during the day... O well. One other thing I checked was the temps. In ATi tool they never went over 72c with the stress test. (I know that's a little high, but they never even broke 64c in css). So that leads me to believe its a problem with the source engine. Any suggestions? If not then Im just going to tell him to reformat his HDD and do a clean install. =/
Thanks! :D

did you make sure to wipe old drivers before installing the latest?
also try wiping the drivers and trying the omega version to see if it changes anything? or try an older version of the catalyst drivers?

Okay, I dont think he did that. How would one go about wiping the old drivers? And where could I find old drivers for this particular card?
Thanks for the reply! :)

Last time I wanted to get rid of drivers, I unistalled everything in safe mode via control panel [ got rid of ATI drivers, and ati control center ] . Then i restarted back into safe mode and ran "Driver cleaner" .. then rebooted again normally and installed the Omega Drivers.

Sweet! Ill try this tonight. =) But about Omega drivers, how safe are they and what should I do if they screw something up? (Of course I'll still back up the old ones, but just in case...)

They have worked fine for me. If you need to just uninstall them the same way I listed in my other post and install some catalyst ATi's
