I'm setting up a new HD player into my HTPC and wanted to share the ethernet I've got running to the PC. I bought a linksys workgroup switch i was adding in line then branching to the hd player, Dish DVR and PC(everybody wants an ethernet connection). However, whenever i connect them all to the switch, I get no connection? Plug the feed back into the computer, no prob. Bad switch? all the lights light up signaling connection, but no flicker. Oh main router is a linksys wireless. I went into it and found no switch etc.

Does it sport DHCP?
If so disable it.

If it was a "router" (assigns IP addresses etc), you need to follow James' advice about disabling DHCP.
If it is a "switch", then you won't have that option and the switch could be at fault.
If you can tell us what model the Linksys is and the switch is, we can help you further.
Ehh, can you describe exactly how it is setup?
Something like:
Cable Modem > Wireless router > workgroup switch etc etc etc.

broadband modem>Linksys 54g wireless> linksys EZxs5W> computer/dvr/hd dvd.
Current build is modem>router>computers
Now my other computers have lost their connections?
Ok so you have a port on your switch plugging into the router, are the lights lit on both sides? Also what kind of cable did you use to connect them?

Strange display above, anybody else?
I've got a n extra ethernet port on my mobo. Can it be bridged the existing connection and then routed to the switch for the other appliances?

The switch has 5 ports, 1-5 and next to five one labeled "uplink". I tried the 'hard' connectionn in the uplink and '1', no change. There is no ip address to access the switch.

Try using the uplink port to connect the switch to the router, and then don't use the port right next to the uplink port at all. Use the remaining ports for additional devices.
If that doesn't work, try connecting the switch to the router using the port next to the uplink port instead and don't use the uplink port at all.
