For those that might think this is a "cheap" board 'cause it costs <$100, I have had an E6850 run at 4.1 GHz , E6750 @ 3.9 GHZ and lately an E8400 at 4.4 GHz on this board, I still have it and will NEVER get rid of it. Probably the easiest board out there to OC with and rock solid stable !!
You guys need to stop trying to make me spend more money :)

Oh, got it. The link to the CPU. Sheesh, was thinking you were high or something! :)
I'm gonna pull the trigger on the motherboard and that CPU. If anybody finds a good deal for 2x2GB of ram let me know :)

I got this board myself recently for 47.40 from frys, dont bother looking now they are all long gone or at best very hard to find, and it was certainly worth the price but if I had more money I would look elsewhere. It randomly has issues with my ram, look in sig, and either refused to boot w/ 4gb or sometimes even says that I dont have 4gb isntalled. For some reason it doesnt like the ram I have in slots 3 and 4. The memory works fine in other computers as well. Also randomly the board decided to freak out two days ago and would constantly reboot before it got to bios. I fixed it somehow but dont really know what I did.

I have two of them one works flawlessly the other has the issues that I discribed with whatever sets of ram I put in the 3rd and 4th slot no matter which set or bios I use (I have 8 1gb sticks that I tryed in it). As for when it freaked out it did so after I turned it on normally when I woke up. I also turned it off normally when I went to sleep the previous night. However both of mine are open box abit refurbishes.

I decided to hit my local fry's (tempe AZ) after reading this and just my luck they had a fresh refurb IP35-E on the shelf with a shelf date of 2-8-08 and a price of 49.90. Good thing I was there when it opened at 9. Thought about doing the Fry's ECS/celeron 430 for 49.99 (put the ecs mobo on e-bay) but decided to go home and do some research. Decided to buy a e2180 for 89.00+tax at a local oem store in Phoenix cuz I didn't want to wait until wednesday or thursday for newegg @82.99. Definitely worth the 13-14$ to have it in my hot little hand today.
When I get it put together i'll let everyone know how it turns out

I am currently using this board and when I first booted it did not like my ram (Crucial Ballistix Tracers DDR2-1000) and would not even let me into the bios. What I did was boot with a cheap stick of Kingston value ram and changed the ram voltage to 2.1v shut down and put in the other ram. Since then it has run beautifully and rock solid. I can't believe its so cheap!!

I would guess micro center they have the e8400 for 189.99 and also have this mobo in store for $50 AMIR. Newegg is only the 3rd best place to buy this board, it is however the best online source, it is beaten by frys 47.40-47.90 (depending on the store) open box and the $50 AMIR deal over at microcenter.

just do what i did... ask yourself, is it worth $30 savings to HOPE that it comes back in stock?? i just went with mwave... I'd rather pay the $30 extra and get it already! they are in stock in many stores, and when they go out of stock they frequently replenish within a few days, however if you can only order from microcenter online then just give up on the 8400 deal
i bought one already for a friend, but i'm tempted to buy another... b/c i got that e2180 deal for $58 shipped AR. i think i'm gonna get this with my gf's account... have a spare combo ready to go in the future!!

Mine came in today. I wasn't all that happy with the MSI 945 motherboard I had recently gotten (barely overclocks), so I figured this would be a nice replacement. However right after it came in, one of the senior managment had his last component come in and I had to start rebuilding his home computer. well it turned out we had a little delay as sunday (2-10) I started to give birth to some kidney stones. In the mean time I decided to return the sealed e2180 and get a e8400 (245$+tax)this morning much to the delight of my local oem store that was more than happy to make that exchange.
I got the Fry's IP35-e e8400 breadboarded on my kitchen table and other than an initial "CPU not workable message" which goes away when you set the cpufsb to User defined. I'm booting into the bios at 9X400 or 3600. BIOS temp is 40C Looks like the board either came as BIOS 15 (latest) or Fry's updated it before putting it back on the shelf.
Tomorrow I'll install windows!!!

Woot!!! Got my new board, it's beautiful. Can't wait to start playing with it!
Well, I got mine installed Monday and already I've got my E6300 up to 2.56Ghz on stock voltage. No problems at all. Though for some reason it doesn't want switch over to the front panel audio connector. Might not be plugged in right though. If it doesn't work it might be the case causing the problem.
Anyway, got the MIR sent off today and I'm enjoying it right now.
i have this board running my old e6400 at 3.2ghz 400x8 1:1 on stock voltage prime stable. for some reason uGuru doesn't see anything... it's all blank and 0s.
i tried the stock e6400 cooling and i hit 83c/85c on core0/core1 and since i had 80c auto shutdown in bios the machine shutdown!!! i couldn't believe the temps on STOCK VOLTAGE???
So anyway, i swapped the stock cooling with a Coolermaster HyperX and now i'm load at like 50-52C... I NEVER imagined how bad stock cooling could be. Has anyone else experienced something like this? I dropped temps by 30C just by upgrading stock cooling to a semi-decent after-market cooler. I mean, this is with EVERYTHING ON STOCK VOLTAGE. wth?

Yes. I had one that the BIOS was reporting was at near 100. I remounted several times and still got load temps in the upper 70s, tried another stock heatsink and got down to high 50s load. Some kind of design flaw? Who knows

I think it's probably a design flaw of the stock heatsink... I don't like the design of the PIN MOUNT... I always verify a solid mount by pulling up on the heatsink in all different directions after I mount, to ensure all FOUR mounts are solid, and for SURE it was solid.
Anyway, like I said, I netted over 30C drop in temp by swapping out the stock HSF for the Coolermaster Hyper-X (which is nowhere near the best coolers out there).
By the way, I'm priming my e6400 @ 3.2ghz stock vcore on this Abit IP35-E as we speak. I set it up before I left for work and remote in through logmein.com to make sure temps are fine, which is ranging from 44-47c load on one core and 47-48c load on the other. My brother just called me and said it's making the double-tone beeping noise... you know, the infamous sound by Abit. I logged in and ALL TEMPS are in range using speed fan.
What's this about??? I'm using the CPU fan header so it's not like it's that problem. Anyone know what the double-tone beep could be caused from? I rebooted and the sound stopped but when I got back into windows and started priming again... shortly after the beeps started again, but not right away.
Is there a setting in BIOS I need to disable? =/
*EDIT*
I'm guessing it's software related... I wish I was home to diagnose... I think it's a voltage rail reading dropping low and giving the beep. I wanna turn that stuff off as it's probably reading wrong?

Guys, I can't get rid of this two-tone siren. I don't believe it did this when I had the stock cooler hooked up... only after I hooked up the CoolerMaster Hyper-X HSF... but... I did go in BIOS and change the CPU fan header from 4-pin to 3-pin... and still I hear the 2-tones! :( It doesn't stop... but I think it's software-related... perhaps the Abit EQ is doing it, but everything now seems in range.
I just tried to prime for 30min and it didn't do it. Grrr... gotta figure this out b/c I'm giving this machine to my friend soon.
Also, I installed uGuru by browsing the CD and i get the windows error EVERY TIME i try to access it... even tried uninstall/reinstall a couple times and still windows error every time I try to access uGuru!!
Why is it on the CD?? Does this board not support it?

From abit forums:
No, you cannot use uGuru w/ the -E (or the IP35). It has SoftMenu on a standard BIOS chip rather than the additional uGuru chip.
What is the two tone supposed to notify you of?

Yes, completely different. uGuru is a bit more sophisticated. I used it on my old QuadGT P965 and LOVED it... you could adjust voltages and everything on-the-fly.
Anyway, AbitEQ is still decent.
From abit forums:
No, you cannot use uGuru w/ the -E (or the IP35). It has SoftMenu on a standard BIOS chip rather than the additional uGuru chip.
What is the two tone supposed to notify you of?
I don't know yet... trying to get it to do it again... probably from AbitEQ...

^ There's the answer... just primed for 56min until it finally did the 2-tone again.
The CPU fan RPM was showing 1800s... but when the alarm (2-tone BIOS speaker) went off, it was showing 0 RPM, whereas the minimum threshold was 600RPM. I was positive the fan was still spinning b/c the temps were still around 50C load, but I did open up the case...
THE CPU FAN WAS STILL ON!!!
Why AbitEQ is thinking it died I don't know, but I had gone into the BIOS earlier today and noticed there was a CPU FAN choice of 4-pin or 3-pin, since it can take both styles. I'd changed it from 4-pin to 3-pin in the BIOS and no matter which setting I still get the beeps.
This sucks... I disabled the alarm for the CPU fan, but it is nice having it IF IT WORKED CORRECTLY!
I think there is a Software switch you need to turn on
I didn't see anything that worked in the Realtek audio software, but I'll keep looking.
Btw, up to 2.8Ghz on stock voltage. I think I'll leave it here until I can get better cooling than stock. I'm only running in the mid 50°C under load though.
Guy I bought the chip from got it up to 3.5Ghz, so I know the chip has more room to play.

I'm using a 3 pin fan connector and it works fine. Sometimes I get random speeds for a split second and it will say my fan is spinning at -13454524098425 rpm's. It doesn't set the alarm off though.

I had the same problem with the fan siren, but i had my 3 pin fan plugged into the 3 pin outlet and it needed to be on the 4-pin to the right of it even if its 3-pin then i just had to change to fan from 4 to 3 pin in the bios and bam the siren went away.

I did that yesterday after the first series of beeps and it never fixed it... I'm actually surprised.
I just turned off the BEEPs... I have the emergency shutdown set at 80C, so even if the CPU fan died the CPU won't fry.
does the bios on these support a e8400 out of the box?

i should have tested it... but already put my 8400 into my loop on my main rig. :(

I had also plugged in my power and HD LEDs in the wrong way (+/- were incorrect). When I went back and changed that, I also replugged the audio in. Something I did then fixed it, not sure what though.

Yes, I installed my e8400 with no problems. My board came with the version 15 bios.

from my ~6 mos with this board i can say two things for sure
#1 abiteq is useless.... it doesnt save the settings when you turn off fan eq and basically provides no functionality that speedfan doesnt do better
#2 - IF AND ONLY IF youre sure your fan is running and the temps are ok deactivate the fan speed alarm shutdowns in BIOS, id also turn of the fanEQ settings as it never seemed to work right for me and i dont want my fans changing speed anyway.
I had a friend who switched to a 3pin fan for his cpu and despite changing the setting in bios it never stopped that awful alarm until he deactivated the bios fan speed alarm...

good to know thanks,
good to know thanks,
Got another question does this support raid 0?
I didn't notice until you just asked... just looked it up and no support... i'd no idea.

so i'm assuming you read my posts too, right? cuz it was nothing but probs for me and i had to disable it all as well.
i wanted the fan to be regulated so the machine won't be loud, as it's for my friend and not me. :(

I just tried overclocking my IP35-E/e8400 (3GHz):
FSB: 400MHz
CPU: 3.6GHz
DDR2: 800MHz
From what I've read, this should be easily achievable, however with these settings, my computer won't stay on longer than five seconds. What am I doing wrong?
Hey Deckard, check out this guide

and then just ask for help in the cpu section of the forum.

Well crap. Mine was running fine and then just shut off--I had it on stock settings, no overclocking. I can't get it to POST at all now--no beeps, fans & hdd's all spin up, but no POST. Tried clearing CMOS, reseating everything. Don't have another video card or CPU so I can't try that. But luckily I do have another motherboard. Guess I'm RMAing this and going back to my cruddy ECS board for a while.
Ok, I can't find my IDE drives in the BIOS. Shouldn't it be under standard CMOS?
Yup. Make sure the IDE controller is enabled though. You might also check the cable and the jumpers (master/slave). Or maybe you got a dud like me.

sry to hear that. :( does everything work on the ECS board?
did you make sure that the board is not set to CLEAR CMOS position? I did that once, a long time back. :D

No, the ECS board is fine, it just has no O/C functions. It was pretty much free with my E6750 at Fry's. The IP35-E just died. Had it on with windows installed--was installing programs--and it just shut itself off never to turn back on again. Got fire and fans spinning, but no POST. Checked everything 3 times before tearing the PC down and re-installing the old board.

How do I make sure the IDE controller is enabled?
I think I reset the CMOS properly, is that what you mean by jumper? D: Hope its not a dud.
It's one of the options in the BIOS. I forget which screen (and can't check since my board died), but check your menus maybe the one for "Integrated" stuff, and it'll be on there as "enabled" or "disabled"--you know wwhich one you need.
No, regarding the jumpers, I mean check the jumpers on the hard drives to make sure that they're either set for "master" or "slave" as appropriate. Usually hdd's have a sticker on top which shows you the proper jumper settings.

did you already cut out the UPC to send in the rebate? if so, newegg may not take it back and you may have to go through Abit.
With Abit, you can do cross-shipping if you pay them $157 (7 for ground shipping or like $15 for 2 day shipping)... they then refund you $150 by a check about 2 weeks later if and when they receive the DUD board. If you go through it this way, they will ship the board to you within a business day I think... so if you set that up tonight, you may get it by the end of the week depending on your shipping method and where you live.
Otherwise, you may not get the board for about 2 weeks, but you won't have to shell out money. Personally, I always go for cross-shipping and ground as $7 is worth it to me not to have to wait a couple weeks... though you do have the ECS board to lean back on, so truly you're not in a rush. :)
On all honesty, I think the E8400 at STOCK CLOCKS is still a MONSTER. At stock, it's almost identical in performance to my old e6400 @ 3.64ghz!!!
Nah, I waited on the rebate for this very reason.
