So, I am about to send in my step-up for the 8800GT, (Waited a month in queue :-/) but now I'm about ready to ship mine in. So what kind of aftermarket cooling should I look at for this baby? I want to avoid the Accelero route because it takes up too much space... So is there any smaller yet still cool solution?

Looking at maybe the VF900...

How big is the HR-03? How many slots would it take?

PhysX

one or two, depending on which side you have it on, if on the top you would need space by your NB,if bottom then it will taske two slots.

Wait, is this the one you can mount backwards?!? (Or Upsidedown)

Edit: KThanks nvm.

Edit:Edit: Wow $55 without a fan. =/ Dont know if thats affordable for me... We'll see.

if that's not affordable, go for the Accelero S1, half the price but almost same performance, may differ 1=2c

So the Zalman's wouldnt be a smart option? Im not looking for supreme performance, just somewhat cheap and low(er) profile. (I know the accelero is cheap, I just have a lot of periperals: wireless nic, sound card, and tv tuner card... :-/)

if your board layout is the same as mine, 2 pci cards should fit..just to show mine with a 120mm fan :)

Its not =/ Mine is a 680i layout for the slots.

The Zalman VF-900 works just fine on the GT and cools it adequately, it hardly takes up space, not as effective as the HR-03 GT or Accelero variants but those take up a lot of space. I have used VF-900's on 2 of the GT's I owned and they suited my OC needs (756/1825/950)

A passive S1 is more than enough for the GT and only takes up 1 slot.

S1 FTW

If you get the GT w/ the larger stock fan it is adequate by itself, and isn't even loud at 100%. I suggest you at least try it first. Unless you're hard volt modding, the stock GT cooler is adequate...even w/ the 1.1v BIOS mod.

okay, I will send in my order tomorrow, and then we'll see what kind of stock cooler it has. Then I'll decide. Thanks for all the help guys! =)

Yeah, I agree, the S1 is a beast in disguise.

There is a new revision that has a larger diameter fan. I agree the original fan was loud, but the new one is very quiet.

yes the new fan. I've had it on my first card and 2nd card, it still is very loud to me, but I am also easily annoyed by noise :p, I think my whole pc is not more then 30dBa

And the new fan sounds like a jet plane to you?

Just be glad you didn't get the first revision fan then!

Hopefully I'll get the 2nd version then. You know, I heard they do ship out the most vanilla version when you apply for a step-up, so we'll see. :)

I have the Vanilla GT, it's on Water now, but it did come with the larger fan on the stock cooler. Just FYI.

I have a Jetway vanilla(they don't come oc'd ) and the first one I got was around 20 november, and that one had the bigger rev fan on it, so I think you're in the clear with that

Just a little insight on the cooling power of the HR03 GT, i just slapped one on about 30 min ago, and my temps dropped from 39 idle 62 load @100% fan speed, to 26C idle 32 load with a 56CFM fan + fan controller set to lowest setting to being completely turned off.

HR03 is a beast. Right now running 783/1923/975 on 1.15V. About to crank up the voltage see how far I can go before OCP kicks in.

Wow 32 load! Thats pretty beastly! But still breaking the budget =/
Does anyone have a link to passive accelero S1 cooling compared to the stock HS for the GT?
