i heard some time first quarter

They are already out:
Mitsumi's CR-480ATE
LiteOn and Freecom also have one.
Asus announced their CRW-3212A the 27th of december.
CyberDrive will ship at January of 2002 a new series of ultra fast CD-RW drives that will support up to 32x and 36x (!) writing speeds.
