Hi, welcome to the forums. If you go back to the index page you will see that there are many different topics. About your PIII should go under Intel CPUS.
Indeed, welcome to our Forums!
As mentioned above, the great thing about our Forums here, is that we have dedicated topics, for just about everything you could have questions for....one of the busiest, and where this would get the most responses, would be the "intel CPU's" topic.
So, let's move that over to there, and see if it gets a few more "hits" than it has thus far here in GD......
Please take the extra moment, and post by topic. It cuts down the time the Mods here have to spend, moving stuff about, and increases the chance you'll get your question answered quickly.
Off to intel we go.....*whoosh*

Now that we're here in intel CPU's.... ;)
I've got an old 600E myself...you don't mention if your's is a "slot" or "socket" chip, but either will overclock fairly easily.
The big thing to be concerned about, when overclocking, is heat. This should be your first and foremost thought. Improving the capabilities of not only your heatsink and fan (HSF), but case cooling (the fans mounted in your case, blowing cool air thru the case itself) should be dealt with first.
Once you've squared that away... then start by slowly raising the Front Side Bus (FSB) setting in the BIOS. Bump this setting to the next available step, and run there for a bit, testing for stability. If it is, do it again, etc, until you loose stability.
Then, you raise the voltage to the chip itself (vcore), to the next step, and repeat the above, with the FSB.
Keep a close eye on the temperatures of the CPU as you do this...heat, remember? A good quality HSF, and case cooling, will allow a higher FSB and vcore setting to be used... I got a 59% overclock out of my 600E, because I used one of the best available HSF's made for that application.
With good cooling, a good max for the vcore setting is about 1.95v. WITH good cooling, mind you...I wouldn't run this with the OEM intel HSF, and you don't mention what you are using...
Which brings me to this... we can help you a lot better, and easier, and far more accurately, if you help us. Reply, with a more complete list of what is inside your computer (motherboard, exact model of the P/// you have, (there were four (4!) different P/// 600MHz chips...which one you have, will determine how far it overclocks)...two were built using the older Katmai core (a 100FSB and a 133FSB chip), and don't overclock all that well, and the other two were built using the newer Coppermine core (also a 100 and 133FSB pair of chips), and these two overclock much higher.
The best of the four is the 600E version, which is the 100FSB Coppermine chip. This is the one I got to run at a 59% overclock that I mentioned...
A 59% o/c for that, is 954MHz....sweet o/c for the old P/// :D
Good cooling, is the key.
Good luck, and again, welcome to our humble abode!
Cheers!
