Well....
This is what I have done...
I have 2 PC with 1 LAN on each PC
I connect them with a crossover cable...
I have to disabled the firewall in order to get LAN function
I uses the Network Wizard thing to connect PC (WinXP Host, Win 98 Client 1)
Near at the end of this wizard, it asks you to make a disk so u can make Win98 PCs as client
I go to PC2's PC and select the option saying 'this PC is joining a PC in a network without connecting to the internet'
but actually this is what I do... since PC1 only have 1 card, I either do networking or internet...

But now...
I m planning to get a new LAN card
put it on PC1
So PC1 has 1 card joining the net n one joining network and I want PC2 to share internet with PC1 (Fixed IP cable modem)
And will it basically be plug and play? If not, what options do I need to reset, renew and reinstall??

If pc 1 is winxp and that is where you are hooking up the cable modem goto the local area connection that hooks up to the modem and then to shareing and share this connection it sets the other network card to 192.168.0.1 and then you set the other computer to automaticlly obtain an IP address.

YES! I got my ICS working
now my PC (2 LAN cards) is linking 1 to internet and 1 to my sis's PC with net working

the next thing
a new PC will be added..
should I get a hub and connect all together...
or should I get a LAN and link to my dads PC.. but will the network neighbourhood work (when my dad wants to send file to my sister with my PC on but no one operating it)
and can my dad and my sis play LAN games together??

easiest way to set up another computer would be to get a router,
i orginally had 2 pcs at my house, mine and my sisters, i had the cable modem and she was connected to the internet with crossover cable and me with 2 NIC's, well now my dad's laptop had to be connected to the net, so i tried adding another NIC card to my comp, and use a crossover cable to join his, but there was a conflict between my video card and the NIC that i just added (it was under agp slot)

so i got a ROUTER, make sure you get a router and not a hub.. router's only use 1 ip address for the internet, hubs assign another one, so you ISP might charge you more for that..

ya so now i have 4 pc's hooked up to the internet, and with winxp it's a smooth setup, just do automatic ip's and it does it all for ya!

good luck
