I am running a new 8800GTS and was curious what types of temps most users are seeing from this card. I had read that it runs pretty hot prior to buying it. I've OC'd it to around 651/1000 and am seeing around 60C at idle and 80C under load (running Crysis on HIGH settings for about 2 hours). I'm wondering if I need to get some additional cooling in there or if this is pretty much to be expected.
Cheers

i would use rivatuner to up your fan speed duty cycle to 80-100% - it does wonders for lowering your load temps. @ 651core you should be loaded @ 61*C with fan speed @ 100% and good case cooling.

Well, I guess I'll look into some better case cooling this week! I did start to notice some artifacts last night; that's when I shut down to check my GPU temp and saw it at 80C.
My fan is already spun up to 90% manually through Riva, so I guess I'll need some bigger case fans!

Or just better ventilation. Or better cable management.
What kind of case, and how does it look inside?

I've added my system specs to my signature below. The coolmax case is really very good, however it has a nasty dead zone, you guessed it, right at the slot bay!
This is my fix:
> I am replacing all the stock case fans (2@22CFM in and 2@22CFM out = 44CFM throughput) with new fans rated at 32CFM. This will jump my passthrough cooling to 64CFM (45% increase).
> I am installing an additional 32 CFM intake fan through the side of the clear panel aimed directly at the 8800 intake fan to feed it with cool air.
> I am installing a 42CFM PCI slot fan (exhaust) below the 8800exhaust ports (the ones that nicely redirect hot exhaust right back into the case) to get that super hot air out of the box.
Hopefully this will effectively drop my temps. I'll post back with results next week after the mods.

A Very easy mod I did with mine was take the shroud off the card disconnect the stock fan and put a 92mm fan on with zip ties.

It still seems stupid to me that the 8800 exhauts 66% of the hot air back into the case. I just may build a duct to that PCI slot cooler to make sure it sucks it cold.

hello.. my GTS at 650/1000 54c idle and 70c when playing crysis after i place a 120mm fan on the side next to it.. before it was 62c idle and 80ish load.. stock cooling

Thanks for the input! I figured somebody else had attempted this with positive results. It's good to see that it is a sound idea.
Part of the reason that I'm replacing the stock fans is also that they don't connect to the 3-wire pins on my MB; they are all 4-pin molex and therefore can't be monitored, or controlled, through the bios.
