*edit* NOTE: fixed correct link for the 242T (sale is not for the 242T FHD 1080P model)

Ok , this is just a heads up....

The deal does not start till this comming Sunday 2/17-2/23 . Deal will be in thier up comming weekly flyer : http://officedepot.shoplocal.com/officedepot/Default.aspx?action=browsepageflash&storeid=2540437&rapid=513276&pagenumber=1&prvid=OfficeDepot-080217&promotioncode=OfficeDepot-080217

Officedepot will have two models of the Olevia 42" LCD TV onsale (w/NO rebates) . 242T and 242V either model for $799 .

Both models will be $100-$200 cheaper than Neweggs current price(s)

242T : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16889022063

242V : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16889022051

Looks like a pretty good deal imo (and no shipping charges an added plus) . Most reviews found are very possitve for either model .

I myself have the smaller 37" Olevia model (237V) from a recent Kmart deal I posted here about two weeks ago ($617) and Iam VERY satisfied with my purchase (in bedroom HT setup).

I dont get it. Why do they show both models in the Office Depot ad? I am confused as to what one they are putting on sale.

the 242V is 720p, currently at $799 on the egg, and i guess is much worse than the 242T, which is 1080p.. i'm not sure why they would price them the same, but $799 for the 242T looks like a great deal.

some guy is saying about it:

"Cons: Apparently it can only handle TV broadcasts up to 1080i, but that's not an issue for me. I don't even know if that only applies to just TV or all inputs (except PC) because I'm running the HD-A2 HDDVD player and can't hit 1080p if I wanted to."

what does he mean? can the tv handle 1080p or not? (i don't know much about these things)

He's obviously not very bright because at the moment nobody I know of broadcasts TV at 1080p...they're either 720p or 1080i.

With a native resolution of 1920x1080 it can handle 1080p...I'm still not sure why they'd have the same price on 720p and 1080p models.

Ok guys , I think I may have miss lead some people into looking into the wrong model of the 242T (with my Egg link) . *note link fixed/corrected

There are TWO models :

1.) 242T 720P/1080i http://www.olevia.com/en-us/Products/2Series/242TLCDHDTV.aspx#2

2.) 242T FHD 1080p http://www.olevia.com/en-us/Products/2Series/242TFHDLCDHDTV.aspx

The sale at OD is on the first model (not the FHD)

The FHD/1080P just came out recently and was not on Newegg site before ; so I made a mistake on pointing you to the incorrect version of the "T" model .

Very sorry for the confusion !

However ..... I just found this deal on the 242T FHD @ Target ($807.30+$61/ship) *apply coupon code :BJ6KQJLI for discount

I went to office depot to check out this monitor, and the picture quality was horrible compared to every other television there. I ended up buying a 37inch Sharp monitor that was at the same price - and I love it.

Er, sorry, I used monitor and television interchangeably there, I meant television in every instance.

Yeah, Olivia doesn't make quality sets...that's why they sell for cheap.

While I'm a firm believer in getting 1080p over 720p o 768p if you want good quality picture and will use the appropriate sources, there are other factors that will make a huge difference in picture quality. This is why I scoff at people who want to claim that LCDs are equal if not better than Plasmas in picture quality...it's only true when you compare a high end LCD with a crappy 1024x768 res Plasma. Most LCDs are cheap because they're the most popular, so you get crappy true contrast ratios, crappy black levels, very crappy color reproduction...etc.

Um, what makes you so sure that anyone at OD knows how to calibrate a monitor/television.

It's unfortunate, but it's difficult to find a competent person at an electronics store able to set up an LCD/Plasma TV to its optimum performance.

Furthermore, if they are using any sort of video splitter, that will degrade the picture even further.

Olevia makes good stuff--but they need to be tuned.

On a 42" or smaller TV, it's difficult to discern the difference between 720p and 1080p. I wouldn't stress too much about 720p vs. 1080p resolution at that screen size and that price point.

This is true, but it's subjective, and it very much depends on your viewing distance.

A lot of people don't see the difference between 480i broadcast TV and a 480p DVD - it doesn't mean the rest of us don't.

I use to be the same way. I thought I couldn't see the difference between them. However, when someone actually points it out and shows you, its something you can never miss heh.

I will try to check out this model. Just trying to get rid of this crappy 32in magnovox HDTV first.

I considered this while making my purchase, but what am I supposed to do, take the risk? I went to three different stores to look at the olevia and at every single store the lcd had horrible quality compared to the rest - so I made my decision based off of that.

Got the 242TFHD for ~820$ out the door yesterday at target...called in and asked them to put it on hold..came in and it was gone. Asked them to see if there was another Target that has one in stocked (which there was at ~5mins away) Arrived at the second Target, got the Tv, talked to the dept manager and explained my issue, she called the first Target to confirm and gave me 15% off + I applied for the Target CC for another 10% off. So 25% off 897$+tax = win
