I need to upgrade my sisters PC with a new vid card that has a S-Video out to use as a HTPC client for a future TV Server I plan on setting up. Unfortunetly, she has a Dell, so they "neglected" to put a AGP slot on the board, so I'm limited to PCI vid cards only. I've seen the selection available on NewEgg, but I'm wondering which would give me the best bang for the buck picture quality wise with the S-Video output, Video Acceleration (MPEG2 mainly), as well as allow some light 3D gaming (nothing modern, only something like AudioSurf). I can't switch out the PSU either, but the system is very lightly loaded. Suggestions?

I would have gone with a mid range ATI HD 2600 or one of the higher end HD2400 models since people have been saying they are pretty decent for the whole HTPC thing, but the only PCI slot one on newegg atleast is the 2400pro and I don't know how that stacks up.

Ahhh, I sould have also stated that it will only be for SDTV, as that system in no will would be able to handle HDTV signals, nor do either of them have an HDTV screen.

i believe the best PCI card is the x1550pro.

I've looked at the x1550 offered on NewEgg, and indeed it appears to be the best for PCI. Looks abit "future" proof too if my sister ever decides to buy her daughter a HD screen. But I still doubt that the system itself would be able to handle any HD signals even with that vid card.
