I am taking my 42 back to Costco's and buying the 50 for $200.00 more. I went to Best Buy to buy it to see if they matched the price and they will. However they will not let me use my 12% off rewards coupon. That stinks!

Here is the link from Pricegrabber, it is the same TV I purchased at Fry's that Best Buy price matched.

Scornduffer--

When you post a cyber-deal, it is customary to post the link to the store (in this case, Fry's) where the item(s) you post can be purchased. It also acts as a price verifier.

$1200 for the 42" 42PZ77U isn't bad. I think a lot of people are complaining about its anti-glare coating not being so great and making the picture look bad (especially when compared to Panasonic's other 42" 1080p plasma, the 42PZ700U...but that's probably subjective. Kind of like the people who think LCDs look better than an equal resolution plasma.

I heard that plasmas only last for like 2 years or something... or that they burn out quicker than LCD or whatever... not sure if this is true or not...

Also, I agree the title of this post said plasma 50 for 1299... I don't see that anywhere.

Edit:

I would like to note that this is not true 1080p...

Yeah, as suspected that isn't a 1080p set... The 75U is a good Panny plasma, no doubt, but it only does 720p. The 77U and 700U are the 1080p sets. My friend has the 42PZ700U and it's simply amazing.

Blackjackel - Plasmas get a bad wrap for image retention and life span, but the truth is the technology has evolved past those problems. Plasma sets have true life expectancy equivalent to or better than many of the best tube TVs. The good ones (Panny, Pioneer) also no longer suffer from the image retention problems that 1st and 2nd generation Plasmas suffered from. You can safely play all sorts of video games and watch sports without worrying about the static images getting stuck on screen. Of course, you can't leave a frozen image on screen for hours upon hours, and it's always good to give the tv a break, but Plasmas are in fact very good options for HD.

That isn't the $899 set the TC was talking about. $1200 for the 42PZ77U is nothing to sneeze at, but my friend got his 42" 700U at BB 4 months ago for 1400 out the door. I've had a chance to get one myself for 1300 since then and didn't do it.

The 700U, by the way, is a totally superior set to the 77U in my opinion.

I like the 77U because it has a 10,000 contrast ratio with gives a better picture. The 700U only has a 5000 contrast ratio but has a PC connection which I don't need.

Contrast ratio does matter, don't misunderstand me here ... but their advertised contrast ratios don't. They're not real, because they're not measured in a realistic fashion.

Both will have excellent black levels...especially when compared to LCDs.

Exactly. And when comparing them side by side you'll certainly notice a difference. I'm sure opinion will vary from person to person, but when I saw the two side by side the 700U's colors and blacks popped much more than the 77U. The 77U's anti-glare screen also seemed to wash out the blacks just a bit.

I brought the 50 inch Panny Plasma 75U home and the picture is not as good as the 42 720P with anti glare I had before. I am going to return it in two weeks and either purchase the 42 700U 1080P or I may wait until April when the new Panasonic 46" plasmas come out.
