God, this game is amazing :D
You can have SO much fun with strategies. Here's a story of my epic battle:
I was on the mission where you had to capture a heavily fortified Town Hall in one of the small towns in France, shortly after the D-Day landing. So I have my 2 mortar teams put down a constant barage from the south, while my stealthed snipers provide recon on the area. While all this is going on, I move my infantry squads, armed with anti tank and machine guns, around the town hall to attack it from the north. Knowing well enough that a counter-attack will be imminent, as I move my infantry I have them lay down mines and build fortifications on the crucial intersections of the roads. Finally I move my infantry in and quickly take out the remaining troops in the town hall with little casualties. Success, but not for long.
I get intel that a panzer division is 10 minutes away from my location. I've got no tanks. The panzer division will be coming from the north, and the only way to get to the town from the north is through the three bridges. So I fortify each bridge with mines, barb wire, machine gun placements. Don't have any tanks, so I put about 1 37mm anti tank artillery gun, a squad or 2 armed with salvaged Panzershrecks or other AT weapons, along with a machine gun at every bridge. The division arrives. My mines kill about 5-10 tanks until they reach the bridges. Pure chaos ensures. My MG placements and MG squads make mincemeat out of german infantry while my AT artillery and squads take our german armor, which consists of Stug tanks and half-tracks. Everything is going alright, until my defenses begin taking artillery fire. Oh god, one bridge gets completly wiped out, and the other two are taking heavy fire too. I try to get more AT as soon as possible, but it's no use. They begin overrunning the town hall because they finally realized to focus on one bridge rather than spreading thin...so I have to fall back to the church in the south. I have my snipers cover my retreat. Finally, artillery becomes available to me. With one artillery, I take out 2 Stug's and a half-track. Back at the church, I set up a good defense while the germans are busy killing my snipers (those brave souls saved the lives of many allies). I quickly put up a sniper and a couple of MG's in the church. Mortar team behind the church. 3 AT artillery field guns and about 3 squads of AT infantry with 3 men each, plenty to take out any tank. So I'm sitting there wiping the germans out cause they're only attacking with like 1-2 tanks each wave, doin pretty well...and after about 3 minutes the Allied Armor arrives and everyone is like "Yey the armor is here", as if we were losing  so then we push the germans back and epic win. I killed like 250+ Nazis, killed about 30 tanks..lost probably around 40 men total. Granted it was on normal difficulty, and the germans weren't very smart lol ( I get creamed in multiplayer)
