Could be heat, got decent case cooling? could also be not enough juice to the CPU and/or memory if you're overclocking at all.

I have 4 case fans, a 350w psu and everything is at stock speeds.
Any ideas?

Are you getting decent ratings on the rails m8, specifically the 5v and 2.5v. Motherboard Monitor (http://mbm.livewiredev.com/) will tell you that if you're not sure.

And upping the memory voltage a notch might help.

hey hey...

i just bought a radeon 8500 retail 3 days ago...umm when i first installed it it would lock up in windows and while running 3d applications...i tried new drivers...beta drivers but nothing seemed to work...

after nothing seemed to work..i went to the bios and thought that the cpu might not be getting enougt power...so i jacked up the voltage form default (core 1.6v to 1.7v and the I/O 3.5 to 3.6)
and i still idle under 30c

everything works fine now....great card....great performance...
hope this helps....:D

I stopped using Win XP and all my problems disappeared.

Its a shame as I grew fond of XP but like I said after I reformatted and reinstalled 98se and ME I have absolutly No problems now.

Gotta Love ATI drivers they will never be like Nvidia, You can't just make a top notch card if the software isnt top notch itself.

Many people are resorting to Hacking the drivers themselves which is ridiculous.

I love my ATI 8500 but ATI will never learn.
