Running 8800GT OC'd and q6600.

Downloaded Crysis demo, and played around with visual settings. First, I changed everything to Very High, and the game had a somewhat playable framerate in most places, but in places with high levels of vegetation, it lagged a bit. Then I tried everything on Very High with 8x AA and experienced a slide show. Turned off AA again, and the framerate started to chug, and the sky looked torn with red blotches. I then turned down all settings to high and the framerate improved drastically to around 30 - 50 frames a second in every spot of the demo map, but the red sky was still there. I then turned shadows and post processing to Medium, and turned up Textures and Physics to Very High. Immediately after doing this, I got a message that said "The crytek engine has stopped working." Thereafter, the game shut down.

What do you all suggest?

set everything to medium and work your way up from there :) see if it happens in the editor as well.

you got either heat or psu issues or both?

What does that have to do with the quality of the graphics?

Set the memory on your 8800GT back to 900 and that should fix it. Miy GT did the same thing at 950.

Or lower it from what ever its clocked to.

Crysis in general raises your GPU temp around 10 degrees higher than any other game, so watch your temps.
