View Full Version : Help PNY GF3 Ti200 owners!
I was messing with the BIOS. I know, it's a no no but I was trying to enable Side Band Addressing using Ray Adams nvidia bios editor. The program works great except SBA is somehow tied to fastwrites. If you don't mess with SBA it's a great little program. When I enabled SBA and found it unstable, I reloaded my original bios that I saved but fastwrites are now gone. I probably didn't save it the right way. The system tells me FW's are no longer supported by the video card hardware which is bull because they were. Even swaped cards between machines and it's definately the card.
If anybody out there owns a PNY GF3 Ti200 could you please download these two programs and send me an untaited copy of the PNY Ti200 bios at maap@erols.com. This will in NO WAY affect your bios. It just mirrors it.
This is the best way and the way I should have backed mine up in the first place is;
Get a copy of NVFLASH.EXE :
link :
http://www.x-bios.3dgames.ru/modules.php?name=X_BIOS_FileArchive&op=download&ini=1&lang=english&dir=files/other&fname=nvflash.zip
and a copy of DOS4GW.exe
link:
http://www.x-bios.3dgames.ru/modules.php?name=X_BIOS_FileArchive&op=download&ini=1&lang=english&dir=files/other&fname=dos4gw.zip
Run then from the same directory in in pure dos mode like this (-b is for backup):
dos4gw nvflash -b<filename> i.e. dos4gw nvflash -bpnyti200.rom or what ever you want to call it.
I know there are some PNY GF3 Ti200 owners out there, could you please lend this bonehead a hand. I've learned my lesson. Thanks.........
Oh and for those of you that don't think Fast Writes do anything, my 3dmark 2001 scores dropped from 7860 to 6430 just by having fast writes disabled so tell me it doesn't make a difference.
Problem resolved. I emailed the guy who made the pogram "Ray Adams". He modded the program to allow individual resetting of fastwrites in the bios. Emailed me back and posted the new build on his site. Pretty cool and pretty quick. Thanks Ray.
All is well

Did you have any trouble overclocking your PNY ti200 to those specs? Did you have to modify any extra cooling for it? I'm trying to get all the info I can about the board and overclocking it. My PNY geforce3 is on it's way and should be here next week. I'm upgrading from an ATI xpert 99 which was the weak link in my PC. I once tried to overclock my ATI and it took todays of trouble shooting to get it back to where I could read the screen. Any advice/info would be greatly appriciated. THanks.

No. It over clocked to 255/560 with stock cooling. I did put a TT Crystal Orb on it in hopes I could get the core higher. I figured if it went this high stock, maybe I could push it a little more but the CORB didn't help get the core any higher. Still 255. Might be the limit of the chip. My gosh, it is only a Ti200 and it overclocks as well as most overclocked Ti500's.
Just remember overclocking is all the luck of the draw. A lot comes down to the production run/week of the memory and GPU.
Mine is week 0145. When you look at the board, you'll see little white numbers that look like the numbers you'd see on a digital watch. That's the year and week. PNY boards are manufactured by MSI and the card will actually say MSI 8851 rev 1.30 on it.

So did you use Powerstrp? The coolbits trick? How did you do it basically. I saw in another thread something about saving the BIOS, did you have to do that? Where are some recent articles on overclocking the Geforce chips? Mostly what I found was some how to's on the geforce 256. Can't seem to find a straight foward step by step method of how to do it. Granted I probably won't go step by step, what's the fun in that? But I would like something to follow as a guide so I don't find out about the "don't forget to do . . . ." step.
thanks

Yeah I have the PNY too ,it will overclock pretty well ,but on my high FSB it will only do 225/508 ,but at 133fsb I can goto 260/580 ,and play any game I want but 3d mark always crashes or locks up on hte 3rd test.

Hey guys what are you using to oc your card? I just got mine PNY GF3 ti200 I can get it up to 220/500 and probably higher I've only used the coolbits thing, but when I run it that high the screen has green dots all over it in 3dmark2001 it will make it all the way through without crashing but how do I get rid of the green?

Don't clock the memory so high. :) If you start seeing artifacts, it's because it's clocked higher than it can handle.

I found 3.1 here. Thanks for the tips.

Well if you look at my sig, my FSB is 155 and I'm still able to O/C to 255/560.
I was using NVmax to O/C but then I did some bios editing (hence the whole reason for this thread) and set the freqs I wanted as default.
The original Bios editing program disabled fastwrites from the bios with no option to re-enable them and it no longer became an option, but if you read my resolution, the creator of the program fixed the fastwrite option. Now it works great. :D
Just a heads up and good practice, always backup your original Bios FIRST before you play!

So ,whats all your 3d mark scores with the PNY card?
wildone
PNY GF3 Ti200 O/C'd @ 255/560 w/CORB on an Iwill KK266+R mobo (kt133a chipset).
21.88 Dets and NVmax to O/C (now default in bios)
Win98SE
3dmark2000 - 11190
3dmark2001 - 7832
I think if I had a DDR mobo I could get the scores higher. If I turn every option off and set the monitor at 60hz I can get in the 8100's in 3dmark2001 but that's not how I would run my system so I bench it the way I run it.

I got 8033 ,all I did was turn off v-sync ,if you left v-sync on and turned you montior to 60hz ,you would kill your score ,turn you monitor higher to get a better score.
