Amazon.com gift certificate on amazon.co.uk?

Will it work? My aunt and uncle sent one of those electronic amazon gift certificates online, and of course its from amazon.com. I live in Switzerland, so I would either have to wait till I head back to the US (may not be for a few months) to use it or get international shipping (may cost a fortune). Neither looks good. So does Amazon automatically convert its gift certificates?

Update: just got a reply, Amazon certificates only work off the site purchased.
