View Full Version : Bought a new Vehicle.

Well I bought a new vehicle this weekend. Just wondering if anyone had the same one, and has any issues with it.
I bought a 2006 Chevrolet Trailbalzer SS, with a 6.0L V8 Corvette Engine. It is AWD, and has 34000 miles. I bought it on Saturday, and so far it has been a blast driving it. Crazy power, 395HP. For being an AWD, I can still spin the tires on it.
I am looking at a few asthetic as well as a few performance mods for it. Probably an aftermarket exhaust system, cold air intake, Performance PCM tune, and maybe a few other smallish things. Nothing major.
Like I said, just wondering if anyone else has one of these and how they like it.

Its actually not too bad. I got it Saturday and drove it hard all day Saturday and Sunday, and still averaged higher than my 1999 Silverado with the 5.3L. My Silverado averaged 13.7MPG driving to and from work (60mi/day). With driving this TBSS hard for 2 days I averaged 14MPG. I figure with normal driving, 15-16 isnt out of the question.
Yep, 6.0L. Almost 400HP. 0-60 in like 5.7 seconds aint too bad for a 5000lb vehicle.

If he does alot of trailering, it can be very useful. I personally wouldn't need that kind of vehicle, but I admit they do have their purposes.
TBH, 14mpg is only ~10 less than my Cavaliers 2200 engine gets. It's a 4 cylinder 2.2 liter. Admittedly, most of my driving is city..

I do use my vehicle for Towing, so that is the main reason for a truck, and a V8. I pull a few different things, including a 2-place Jetski trailer, a 1,3 and 4-place snowmobile trailer, and a few other trailers.
As for the price, all said and done out the door it cost me $23,800 including Tax, License, 100,000 Mile GM Powertrain Warranty, and less my trade-in. They were asking $29,990 for it, so I made off not too bad. Also, I qualified for the GMAC 3.9% for 5yrs, which I thought was amazing, since my old truck was at 4.9% and I thought that was the best at the time.
As long as I get equal or better gas milage than my pickup did, I am still ahead.
So... just remember that you DO rule the road and if you put a lift kit and larger tires on it then you CAN run over a prius and or bug!

In response to the post above, VW's are one of the safest cars made today. I own one and wouldn't think twice about walking away from 85% of the accidents you see. Here's another example of a jetta that was in an accident and the driver walked away with a couple scuffs.

if its for towing why didnt you get a bigger suv like a tahoe or a suburban ?

Wouldn't be a car thread unless its mentioned..
Geez, that 6.0L would kill my 5.7L 350 in my El Camino.
16 mpg is really good for a 6.0L v8, and a 5000lbs SUV.
I challenge all you who say its a waste of gas, to just drive around in a V8 for a while, there is no comparison. V8's aren't for driving long distance but they are city vehicles. Toyota Prius's are for cross country trips :p.

Because I used to drive a Suburban and it was a gas hog. Averaged 9-11MPG without towing anything. We had a 16' enclosed trailer that we used to pull with it and when pulling that, it would get 4-6MPG. It wasnt even the 454 version, but just a 350. This will pull almost the same load, and get better milage too.

p.s. lol @ the europeans thinking 6.0L is huge. Corvettes can come with 7.0L and there are/were many cars in the 8+ liter range.

I have a neighbor that has the same as you in black (I like your color better) and it either came with or he had installed roll pans front and back. It really sets his vehicle off. I realize not everyone likes them, I don't care either way but his car really looks nice with them.

I wasn't dissing the car and it does look pretty good, but you can't just say "There's nothinr wrong with a V8."
lol 6mpg.
I always wonder how big are gas tanks in cars like that? Even something like 20 gallons seems like it'd be too small. I'd hate to be trailering something huge and getting <10mpg and have to stop every 3 hours for gas. I've seen people trying to manuever those things in tight spots -- not good.
FWIW the Miata tank is 12.7 gallons and it gets 25-30 driving calmly.
bchur83
02-18-08, 09:26 PM
The tank in this I think is around 23-24gal. Averaging 300-350 miles on a tank without running it too low.
Our old Suburban had a 44gal tank. It cost a fortune to fill, but you could carry 8 people comfortably, and tow at the same time.

Haha 44 gallons is awesome. I'd love to put that in my car and fill my tank once a year. Think about how much money you'd save in gas just by being able to store that extra gas when you can get it at a lower price point.

But the Miata itself has no muscle, the only thing you can pull in it is yourself and a friend... Considering all the possibilities you have with the Trailblazer SS, there is certainly nothing wrong with getting a V8, for only 5 less MPG.
I'd much rather have the torque to pass people on the highway, tbh. Later, Miata.
EDIT: I see the Trailblazer SS uses the Chevy LS2 engine, how different is that from the Corvette LS1 engine?
EDIT2: Nevermind, appears to just be an updated, slightly larger engine.

Yea the trailblazer get decent gas mileage as far as SUV's go. My 99 Jeep XJ with 4.0L inline 6 only is getting 14 right now, and it probably weighs like half of the trailblazer. It is winter though and I am running 4wd quite a bit these past few months. So that is not helping anything.
Nice looking truck, should do an awesome job towing almost anything. My dad used to have one and it would pull his bass boat out of the loading ramp and water with no problem at all. Good acceleration too :D I enjoyed driving that vehicle.

what's wrong with stopping every 3 hours?! Do you not pee? Or eat? Or stretch? Btw your miata goes 4k rpm on the highway, and it's loud and uncomfortable. I would pay the premium for the SS because the highway is the last place on earth your car designers had in mind.

Good choice on the truck. If I could have a truck, this would be it. In my opinion the RWD trailblazer SS is chevy's second best handling vehicle other than the corvette. It is just so much better than those other turds they throw an ss symbol on. It has way better handling than the impala ss (which is pathetic) and its understeer is partially correctable with judicious control of the throttle, which could not be said with the supercharged cobalt.

the Automatic 3spd lost only 2mpg in city and 5mpg highway.

My little 2L gets 20-25MHG freeway and 30-35 on the street due to gearing and driving style (stupid auto) so 15ish (I assume thats freeway cruising?) isn't too bad considering his engine is fun... and mine sucks lol.

He would take your viper and use your engine to replace some famous person's. You would give him your $80k car and he would mislead you and maybe never give it back, stalling and making excuses all the way.

uh I was just stating it, not implying that a 1.8L engine is superior to a 6L engine in performance or anything else. I get about the same distance per fillup so it's pretty comparable/reasonable.
That's something that sorta bothers me about economy cars, I wish they had bigger tanks. I hate going to the gas station, it'd be nice if hybrids and Fits/Yaris etc. had 25 gallon tanks. I think psychologically people equate better mpg with less stops at gas stations.

Try reversing that statement. Toyota Prius's is good for city travel due to it being a hybrid. While I do like driving my wifes SUV for longer trips even if it does consume more gas I just feel safer overall in a larger vehicle.

I drive a '97 with the 5.2 (318) wit no mods except a Flowmaster 40 series, and a cold air intake, and haven't been beaten by Honda yet. It's just my work truck, and really weighted down with tools and what not, so I haven't tried racing much else. It's really too bad Dodge isn't making it anymore.
By the way, nice score on that TBSS. I love those things. They look really good set down on the ground. I knew a guy with one slammed on bags, with all the emblems shaved. Sounded completely stock. No one expected to get blown away by a Trail Blazer. The looks on peoples faces as they were getting passed was priceless.
