Previous one got stolen.

This time around I'm going AMD. I'll probably use an Iwill XP333-R board, which seems to have a lot of space around the socket for large HSF's. I'll probably also get an XP 1500+ or something like that for the CPU.

My criteria are as follows:
1. I'd prefer to get something that costs less than $40.
2. Quiet is good.
3. Good cooling is nice to have too.
4. I'd rather go with something that attaches to the holes around the socket instead of the socket itself, but this isn't essential.

Thanks. :)

First off, if you want to go with the new XP333 standard, I would wait until some time this 1st or maybe even 2nd Q of '02 for the XP333A boards to come out. IWill makes an awesome board but it is the first of its kind and tests have shown that its performance is almost negligable over the KT266A boards! Next, for your cooling. You want something under $40, is quite and has good cooling...how about the Millennium Glacaitor II. It has been running at about $32 on line and it is 10-12 dba quieter than the HS with Deltas. Go to the front page and check the results out for perfomance in the Heatsink Performance Rating area. Hope this helps. :)

Is it just corrections of things people note with the first boards? I've read a review saying that the DDR333 memory will only run at that speed with a 166 FSB. Not a major concern for me.

The main thing that drew me to the XP333-R was great features for low cost. :)

Some more opinions might be nice...

I'd say go h2o but a decent rig for $40 would be real hard.

I was not saying that the IWill board doesn't kick some major MHz but all of the bois setting aren't perfected yet plus this always happens with AMD boards. The first are brought out but then like a month later, the next thing is out and you just spent $300 on something that is out of date. Also, do you have the $$ for DDR 2700 memory? This board will take DDR 1600 or DDR 2100 but what is the point? For a full right up on the board both good and bad, go to OCTools.com. They had a great 6 page article on it. I just don't what to so a fellow OC'er to loss his or her hard earned $$.

via dont spend as much time as they should developing their chipsets, problems, bugs and missing functions are identified in the first chipset so the 'A' version fixes them

you could go for a zalman. they attach round the holes and are designed to be quiet. I dont mean the flower type but the other one they do, it doesnt perfom too badly either!

Really, I think that it is your $, you get to make the desition. I hope that it works out great and if it does, that just means that the reviews are wrong and there is something else we can all throw our $ at! :D

i'm using the XP333-R now...its very stable, but when you buy it, be sure to check ou the version....don't touch it if its a version 1 or 2.....mine is version 2.1
as for the HSF, i'm using Swiftech MCX462, its loud, and i think its our of your budget, but it cools down my cpu good....i'm getting fullload at 35 C...
