Just curious if you guys think I'm going to be bottlenecked by my rig.

MSI K8N Diamond Plus (Socket 939)
Opteron 165 (brand new, running at stock right now, OC coming soon)
2GB PC3200 G-Skill
EVGA 7950 GT
WD Raptor for Windows and standard 7200RPM for all else
Vista Home Premium 32-bit

I'd like to do some DirectX 10 gaming but I'm putting off an entire system upgrade... the 9600 GT caught my eye recently, but I'm worried I wouldn't get much of an upgrade out of it because of my older system.

Any thoughts?

Gracias.

i'm willing to say you would see a ~ 2x proformance increase over the 7950.

plus it's going to overclock alot better then that old g71. espe if thats one of the 'lower' voltage ones.

9600GT (on newegg anyway) are something like $180. You can get an 8800GT for maybe $20-30 more, and it seems to be good for ~2000 more 3dmarks all else being equal. Might wanna go that route..

Just noticed the 8800GS as well. $160 and looks like it comes close or beats the 9600GT? Hrmm..

The 8800GT in my X2 3600+ @ 2.9GHz runs Crysis 1440x900 Very High/High settings. With my 7900GS in it, I could only just about do 1024x768 Medium settings.

Its a HUGE difference. I highly recommend upgrading even with your AMD processor.
