Hi guys,

I have a Freecom 2.5" external 40GB hdd, I have had it for a while now, and I needed it yesterday, but it wouldn't be recognized by windows(vista or xp)

You hear the drive spinning up and seeking, but it's not showing up, the led activity also burns almost constant

I've connected it to all of my 10 usb inputs and 4 firewire inputs(without adapter)

could the external enclosure be causing this, or is it really something else?

it might be a defective drive. Does the enclosure get seen by Windows?

If the activity LED is solid, I bet the drive is toast. Usually when the drives fail, that will stay lit because it is having a hard time reading the drive and therefore the activity is constant.

While it is connected try turning power to USB external drive on an off a couple of times I had one that regularly did this and this was the only way to get it back up reading the drive
