I've been looking at both of these cards, and I'm trying to figure out if the difference in price is worth it.

I game at 1280x1024 with various FPSs like BioShock, TF2, etc. and was wondering if I'd see a $70 difference between the two (the 8800gs is 130, the 8800gt is 200).

Sadly nobody talks about the 8800GS because everyone is so stuck on the 8800GT. I think people really just don't like underdogs. I can see all the ATI guys love the 8800GS. Everyone is hating on the 9600GT because is is running with the 3870 and 8800GT but everyone calls it crap.

the 8800gt is definetly a big step above the 8800gs.... the 8800gs is about 27% less performance than the 8800gt but it is a good specd card id say its right on par/slightly better than the original G80 8800GTS 320... and that was a very good card

The problem is that I only play games at 1280x1024, and I've heard(because I can't seem to find any real benchmarks comparing the two) that the difference is only 10% at the lower resolutions. For a 10% hit, I'd definitely save the $$ and go with the 8800gs. Does anyone have any solid data to base this decision off of?

EDIT: Reached a conclusion. First, the price difference btwn the two is incorrect, as I rechecked all the prices and its about a $30 difference. Also, this is only for the cheapest 8800gs, which is the xfx one. The xfx one has 1.4ns memory, which doesn't clock as well as the evga ones in most reviews do. At lower resolutions, 384 vs 512 memory doesn't really come into play, but the 8800gs's 196-bit bus really cripples it when aa and af are increased, even at 1280x1024. Thus, I decided to stick with the 8800gt. :)

8800GS is $149 and 8800GT is $199. That is a 33% price increase for that card. Seems pretty steep to me. Anyways, the 8800's have been out for quite a while now, I think it is time for something new. I'd wait for the newest series to start coming out.

Too late since you already decided but for that resolution I'd take a 9600GT over the 8800GT even though the price difference isn't that large. If the price difference doesn't matter then enjoy your 8800GT!

my 8800GT eats my 2 7900GT in SLI. so worth the money. i would fork out the cash for the 8800gt any day because of the HUGE gain i got!

I factored in the much better stock cooling on the 8800gt vs the 8800gs, and added that to the cost of the 8800gs, so only about a $30 difference, which is a 17% difference, roughly the difference between the cards, with some added flexibility for the future :).
