View Full Version : ps2 "swap trick" for backups question

I'm new to console gaming, and am not used to having to rely on one disc staying in good condition without a backup. I've heard of these mod chips to play backups, but I've got a friend that actually used to work in a sony shop, who is a master solderer, and even he won't solder inside ps2's nowadays with a 10 foot pole.

Anyway, I youtubed for the "swap trick" - the guy blocked the 3 sensors (had to take the console apart) - but when there seems to be no way to stop the motor spinning in order to swap. He's saying the motor will die in the ass if I were to keep using this method (don't have a backup as yet, no burning s/w that's "good enough") - I imagine that's right? And swap magic, some piece that basicly blocks the sensors too, does that stop the motor? All I really want to do is backup important games and use an ar max (can't buy one in my country  ) - what are my options?

Well this is the wrong section to post in... and probably not even in forum guidelines... but what the hell:

The hell with a swap trick. If it's an older PS2 just get yourself a hard drive and backup all your games onto that. (I used to get a new copy of Tekken Tag every six months before I started backing up to hard drive.)

It's a little tricky but the information is out there.

AFAIK this wouldn't be breaking any rules, because you can discuss things like torrent programs, and even problems with torrents, as long as they aren't, say, for a movie that hasn't even been released yet :P

Got a slimline ps2, unfortunately... which rules out the hard drive. Just realised there was a console section, if anyone wants to move it to there, feel free. I'm just amazed, with games that I've had to take back, the slightest piece of dust can cause a scratch, because there's no way to get it off without scratching the disc (vacuum cleaner maybe? :D ) - it's like anything valuable, you don't use it unless you have to - so if you have a backup copy, then it really doesn't matter if it gets trashed, since (only if you destroy the trashed one), you can just pull out the original from storage, and make another backup... unfortunately console games are nigh on impossible to cheat with, are unable to be backed up without all this mod chip BS, and 99% of games don't come out on pc anymore (a conspiracy to curb piracy? :P )
