View Full Version : Athlon XP able to run on DUAL boards?
hi,
since the new AMD 760MPX seems to become a good chipset (correct me if you know more about it), im thinking of upgrading once again to a dual cpu system.
question is, wheter the XP cpus will run in dualmode properly?! are there any tests made? or will i have to buy the more expensive MP ones?
thanx
They can and have worked fine as dual on the mp chipset. Whether it works on the mpx motherboards is still unknown.
well i know i read somewhere that said that the xp wont work on the mpx chipset so if u want dual xp i would go with tyan and one of their boards with the mp chipset

It is obviously in AMD's best interests to make their MPX chipsetted board only work in SMP mode with their MP processors which in all fairness are very reasonably priced when faced with other manufacturers SMP processing solutions (Alpha, Intel etc.)
If one is purchasing processors for such a board, they would need to use the same stepping anyway, so the purchase of two MP's would not be a bad thing in that case.
I think that loads of people think that it's an issue, but when realised with the target demographic for the product - there is not a problem.
I thought you said you stopped your site. now it is back up! I'll bookmark it again :)

You can't keep a good man down !!
;)
well great! I really liked your news better than most other overclockering sites.
Since you have the highest morgan core overclock I have heard of what stepping should I be looking for the 1ghz are cheap in the states about 53dollars shipped and I was wondering what stepping I should be looking for.

You'll never buy a processor like that - you only acquire them. The processor in my one Duron box at the moment is a 1.2@1.4Ghz which ain't bad - but nowhere near the 1620MHz I had previously.
