Is the $100 more for the HD-595's really worth the money over the HD-485's?
Yes, I believe so. But be aware that the 595's will make every problematic part very clear to you. You will hear all the things you didn't before, good and bad :(
SO if you have a good headphone amp or receiver, go for it!
What are you going to use them for?

I'm going to use them for everything really. Gaming on my computer mostly going through my X-fi eXtreme Music sound card. Also TV use.
I don't have a home stereo system of any kind.
Input from the forum members will help me decide which pair to get.
I find it helpful to read the review on amazon.com. Keep an open mind however...
HD485 (http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-HD-485-Dimensions-Headphones/dp/B0007QN18K/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1204526065&sr=8-1)
HD595 (http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-HD595-HD-595-Premier-Headphone/dp/B0001FTVE0/ref=pd_bbs_9?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1204525908&sr=8-9)
Sometimes I find that one reviewer will mention something that will drive me crazy so I choose the other product...

70ish VS 200+, I pick the 485, depending what you're doing with them. Personally i prefer speakers, the only headphone that I spend money on is closed headphone for tracking purposes, I hate hate headphones. When i walk out I use IEM... cause wearing headphone outside of the house is just stupid looking, when i'm inside the house there's no point to use headphone, just use speakers :)

I like headphones because I am a student so they are great sounding speakers for the price (I cannot afford some amazing audiophile setup)
but yeah I only wear them at home...

if you listen close to the source, pick up a cheap pair of studio monitors (like 200-300 bucks), there's some step over like the blue sky EXO... they got good enough sounds IMO. headphone you'll run into some issue with bacteria built up, or turning the volume too loud without noticting....

EEEWWW! I never thought of that haha. But I am not a really sweaty person and I keep the volume low. I know what you mean though. Closed headphones can create some serious pressures on your ears without you ever noticing, especially when playing games IMO...
I live in South Africa and stuff like studio monitors are quite expensive here. Bare in mind that my headphones are the rather budget Sennheiser HD202's. Most iPod docks cost like 6 times what these cost and they sound pretty good. I like the fact that they are closed so I can block out noisy fans and such.
In general, however, I don't use them often. My ears get "tired" if that makes sense...
