Creative Audio Console keeps resetting my speaker configuration from 5.1 to 2.0/2.1... yet I have a 5.1 configuration. I can't test if all the speakers work since apparently Creative's tools won't work in Vista 64bit.
Also for RightMark how can I increase my recording/playback levels on the mixer? Right now its -9 dB for left and -20 dB for right, when it says it should be -1 dB for both.
It is a driver problem. Reinstall drivers. I think there is also a windows update (wdm driver i think???) that you must uninstall. Then start all over again with the latest drivers...
That's the only fix I know - a friend of mine has the same problem

I haven't had any problems with mine. I am running the Xfi Fatal1ty Pro with a Logitech X-540 under Vista Home Premium 64-bit. I downloaded the latest drivers from Creative on the initial install and had no problems. They were the Version 2.15.2004 (05Nov07).

I have the same X-Fi. I waited forever for creative to finally release a fix for the issue when you use 4gigs RAM on XP x64. It caused random crashes and BSOD's until I removed some memory.
I can't say that I will buy an X-Fi again, or any Creative sound card. At least for a while.
Consider yourself lucky that things are running smoothly!

Ok I've uninstalled the device with device manager, ran ccleaner, dcleaner, restarted, and installed the driver here:

I still get the problem.

Guess I'll consider myself lucky as well.

I am sorry I could not be of more help :(
I wonder what it is then

I had it working for a while until I decided to update the driver in device manager on my sound card... which turned out to be a stupid idea... is there anyway to uninstall the windows update WDM driver? I can't find it in the uninstall list for windows updates but I can find it in the list of windows updates I've done.

As far as I remember, if you still have the old driver, just reinstall it. It will over write the windows one. Just make sure you don't select it the next time you run windows update.

Ok got it to work :) I had to completely uninstall both the drivers for my sound card and my video card through device manager (apparently the video card has sound recording on it), ran dcleaner and ccleaner and reinstalled with the vista 64 drivers for both (catalyst 8.3)
Ah, so it was a driver-driver conflict.
Never thought the graphics card would cause problems. Although these new HDMI enabled graphics cards will probably kick creative drivers up the butt.
Glad to see you sorted it out, and most of all, thank you for sharing the solution!
