I found this purple plastic thing in my sx830. The manual calls it a card guide or something. What is it and what am I supposed to do with it?

Hehe, you might not be old enough to remember this, but some cards used to be "full length" cards. That meant they were so long that they would span the full length of your case, from the slot in the back to the front, and that card guide would hold them in place at the front.

I haven't seen a full length in years, outside of the fact that I do have one, a tv tuner card from the early 90's...

Hehe....
My first couple of pcs had full length cards- I still have a vlb video card that I just can't part with somehow- I think it has a massive 512k of video ram.

Got a whole snot full of full-length cards here, and at least 30 of the individual guide brackets, you know the ones that hold only one card in place each. Ask me if I'll ever use any of them again!!! Go ahead, ask me! :D

I've got the same case........what to do with it.........throw it in the trash!
I love the case though, add the three optional 80mm fans and you can really move some air through that case! :)

Sometimes those things double for a case fan bracket, that's why I have mine in!

Technically the question was supposed to be "Will you ever use them again?" The answer is no. :)

If You Wan't To Install it (Good Place to Store it and Not In The Way) It Goes Behind the 3.5 Drive Bays in a Vertical Position as in Your Photo, Except you Have it Upside Down. With The Frount Cover Off You Should Se The Matching Holes in the Frame to The Right of the Fan Grills.

It's an extended card guide to help physically support long cards for professional cards.
