Hey,

Lately I have been noticing a few artifacts in game, mostly in foggy areas... Now this bothers me because my GPU is running at stock settings...

My CPU/RAM is oced so I thought it might be the problem, I tried running them stock also but it does the same thing.

I decided to run ATItool to see if it picks up artifacts and it gives me this:

Doesn't look good...

Any other tests I should run before declaring that the GPU is dying?

It's an eVGA 7900GT which is not that old, will it still be under warranty?

Thanks a lot

eVGA is lifetime warranty, RMA it.

(be warned they'll probably replace it with a 8600GTS)

Id it dying for sure? Any tests I should run to make sure?

Would I want it replaced with an 8600GTS? (I'm thinking no)

8600GTS performs on average 25% slower than a 7900GT, i'm waiting to RMA my card again cause it dosen't work on vista but I don't want a 8600GTS as a replacement. Now if they upgrade me to maybe a 8800GTS 320 or so it wouldn't be too bad.

I had a simular problem with my 7900GTOC turned out it was bad drivers. Maybe the same holds true for yours.

Yes first make sure you update your drivers and even do a clean windows XP reformat (just make a new partition) as to ensure windows isn't the problem.

If both of those fail, RMA.

Worst comes to worst, if you get an 8600GTS, sell it as new and get a 8800GT for $80 more.

This may be the problem because the windows install that its running on now was done with bad ram (could have caused errors). Though I am using the latest nvidia drivers.

I'll do a clean windows install and re-install the drivers and see where that leaves me.

Before you do a complete wipe, roll back the drivers to the previous ones.
