I recently installed Ubuntu AMD64 on VMware on my Opteron185. I was wondering if its not a good idea on a processor that doesn't support AMD-V (hardware virtualization). A lot of Intel guys seem to have success but I remembered the Core 2's have hardware virtualization. Since I'm in the middle of a WU in XP x64, I have to let that finish before I can compare the PPD scores between the two OSes.

Also do any of you fold with Phenoms? How is your performance in windows/linux/linux virtualized?

Oh, better not try virtualization on a Phenom. The TLB erratum will pwn you.

My experience with VMWare on K8 cpus, 939 or AM2, is not good. There are some timing issues when running more than one core in the virtualized OS.
