View Full Version : Power consumption of blower?

I've just taken the heater blower from an old Ford Tempo I had. It's a 12V blower, but I can't seem to find how many amps it's rated at, and the fuse panel is gone from the car.

I'm thinking this thing is going to take a lot of power to run. Does anyone know how much? For example, if it uses 30 amps at 12V, how many watts is that? Would you recommenc that I get a seperate power supply for this blower? (that's what I'm thinking) I have a 300W PS in my system right now. TIA.

Htey're usually rated between 10 and 20 amps, depending on the make and model. I'd avoid using such a large blower, as it is not magnetically shielded.

ok, here's what I have planned for this blower. I'm going to put it in my attic and duct the cold air from my attic to my computer case. It should take a maximum about 2-3 feet of ducting to accomplish.

Would enclosing it in a metal case (such as an old computer case) give sufficient magnetic shielding? Other than not being magnetically shielded, it's perfect for my needs. High CFM, Low noise...

Here are some formulas you can use to compute wattage, not just with the blower, but with other things as well.

Watts = Amps * Volts
Watts = Amps * Amps * Ohms
Watts = Volts * Volts / Ohms
