I just thought you guys might wanna re-consider mocking 1GB video cards after I saw this in Rivatuner monitoring.
This is at 1680x1050 w/ 4x AA enabled after playing for about an hour. It stated at around 620MB of local video RAM & went up.
Interestingly enough, the system RAM starts arond 1.2GB & walks up to mid 1.7GB @ both 1680 & 1920 resolutions.
I guess we really don't "need" 4GB after all. Anyhow enough talking look at the HUGE graph.

I never mock them, I just say most of the time they aren't used. Only a hand full of games get anywhere near the 512Meg limit. And at least past experiances with Video ram and going over what Video ram I have in games have yielded basically a 0FPS hit in games. Oblivion is what i'm refering to since thats what I remember I was doing a lot of testing on between a 256Meg card and a 512Meg card where I was taking no hit even though I was using like 450Megs of Video ram.

System ram well 2Gigs is just enough in XP for games, in Vista though having 3Gigs is basically what is needed for all around safe Ram size, 4Gig is just the logical step forward.

I hear ya deathman, I thought 1GB of VRAM buffer was utterly crazy until I saw that graph playing. What I experienced when I essentially hit the upper limit, is a momentary bit of stuttering when the action is intense. When I am "in the jungle" with all that foilage rendering with AA enabled & fighting "KPA" is when it is worst.
