I like this software quite a bit - I just use the gov, edu and adware/spyware/military sites. Don't ask me why I block gov, edu and mil - I guess, with edu at least, I like the idea of high school kids getting frustrated over apparently not being able to snoop around my computer. It works a treat for ads and spyware - instead of the inevitable annoying animated gifs/swfs from tribalfusion etc, firefox comes up with "cannot find server". I know there's ad-blocking software (I do use adblock and noscript extensions) but this if FREE, and I don't have to tell PG which ads to block like I do with adblock! So, is PG a good quasi-firewall tool or just a fanboy app for those that have something to hide?
i have used pg2 and although it stops most of the annoying stuff, it also blocks a lot of safe things as well. it only slightly better than nothing for actually protecting you imho. if you use p2p software, i would unblock the edu (students like to share ;)). also blocking it wont stop a person who is trying to get on to your computer, for that get a firewall.

I don't think you need to load the gov list, as last time I checked it was empty since they combined it into another list. I tried PG2 for a while as a spyware/adware, bad ip blocker (using some of the Bluetack lists) and it was ok, websites loaded with no ads, but some websites slowed down a lot, and others wouldn't load at all so I needed to enable http in it, which kind of ruined the purpose of running it for me. You can sift through the blocked ips and enable the ones you know load the webpage, but so many pages use multiple ips it gets annoying.
The whole Eset thing was only because one of the Bluetack lists (which do get updated on an almost daily basis) blocked Eset's ips because some P2P activity occured on them. And because PG2 was doing the actual blocking, they classified it as malware for a few days. It has been taken off the definitions.
