My pc is booting but im not getting anything on the monitor!

Its an acer aspire 5100, and it booted normally until now. I turn it on, everything boots up etc, and the screen just stays turned off. No backlight or anything, just off. Heres what caused it. My dad has an ipod shuffle (new one) and sometimes the mobo says that it is an unrecognized device. He tried to turn off the pc, and turn it on with the ipod plugged in (even after i told him its useless) and the pc didnt show anything on the screen, it just booted up normally, but blank screen, no backlight or anything. Is it the mobo, or the screen? Im going to try and hook it up to a separate monitor later and see what happens.

Well obviously check for loose connections, try resetting the CMOS, just poke around and look for faults, smell around the USB ports, they might've fried.

When I popped it open it kinda smelled like burnt stuff, but everything else in the pc looked fine. New mobo time?

You probably already did this but unplug the ipod and then restart the computer. I've had a faulting printer cause something similiar before. lol, I tried setting cmos jumper to recovery and a few other things, each time plugging back in all of my usb connections without thinking.

I already did it like 5 times yesterday. I also tried to plug it in to another monitor, but same thing happens. Anyone have any more ideas?
