I was told that if I had 2x512mb and 2x1gb both in dual channel it will lower the speed, is that true? If so, what is the impact?

It depends. If they are different speeds they will both run at the lowest speed of the two sets, stock of course. If you OC that will not matter. On that same note it can also make overclocking more difficult will all four slots occupied.

This is what someone quoted me:
"I say uneven because on one channel, you have 2x1GB and on the other you have 2x512. Memory interlacing and indexing is then different on each channel"

So this is not true?

You may see a difference on a synthetic benchark but in the real world you will benefit more from the added quantity than from any other minor slowdown(especially in Vista). Unless you are running 1066 ram and are going to mix it with 533 ram that will not OC then you will be fine.
