Ok so I have a Dlink USB wifi pog and I'm getting poor signal strength. It was given to me as a freebie so I might as well mess with it. I noticed after cracking the plastic casing open it looks like it has an antenna port on it, (see pic below). I don't have that type of plug but can I solder some wiring to it or jerry ring some kind of plug to increase range? Let me know what you guys think.

That plug in spot on the left looks like the antenna connectors on my laptops wifi card.

try this (http://cgi.ebay.com/Wi-Fi-Booster-Antenna-for-Mini-PCI-Wifi-Lan-Laptop-A30_W0QQitemZ380004607506QQihZ025QQcategoryZ61816Q QssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)

it has 2 of the connections needed for around $5 its the first thing i found, so you might be able to look for something better.

I forget what type of connecter that is but just buy a small adapter cable. Wifi tends to be picky with stuff and you could just nuke it trying to upgrade.

You always try the custom directional antenna approach and build a partial Faraday cage around it (I think it was done in these forums, basically you could tape some copper caging half way around the top of a can lid and put the adapter inside, bam! instant signal boost)

...humm..maybe I'll try using electrical tape and some wiring before I solder anything to see if it helps..I also looked at a guide that looks like they went from that little hiroso plug to coax...it wasn't very insightful..on how to do it so maybe someone has a good link? I'd love to see a link for what you are talking about freakdiablo......nothing says ghetto mod like having a half cut up beer can off the back of your tower.
