I have just built a Vista HP 32 P5K-E/WiFi-AP 8800GT pooter with an X-Fi eXtreme Gamer retail (~$100) soundcard: EAX. I have just been given a few movies on DVD. I have both a internal LG GSA-H10N IDE ATA pc dvd and a home stereo component DVD player. Both are a few years old. I don't know which DVD player I am supposed to use and how to connect it to the X-Fi then to the 2-1/2 pairs of spkrs I have now, and later on when I'll buy 5500s. Maybe then I won't even need the X-Fi for movies. Until then, for video/movies/even tv hopefully, I want to use a minimum of four speakers, preferably five. Can I get (even a close to standard) Surround Sound from either player and 3 seperate pairs of spkrs? Also, I can either view them on my tv or my 19" Viewsonic pc triny: dunno, that depends. I could even output from the 8800GT to the TV.

I just don't know what to do with what I have. It shouldn't be a trial and error kinda situation, so I ask for solution(s).

I am currently using two different (good) pairs of powered speakers plugged into the X-Fi as Front (L&R) and Rear (L&R). There is a third jack for Center/Subwoofer output on the X-Fi. I have a rather cheap ($10 kind) pair of powered speakers I could use for a center, but I would blow these cheap plastic spkrs up if I just plug them into this jack and it outputs subwoofer signals alone or included with the center signal. These low frequencies may not even be picked up by such cheap spkrs, but that's just not right anyhow. How do I know if this output jack on the X-Fi it is "set" for subwoofer or center channel or both. Is it able to output just the center and not the sub signal? Does it automatically know or is there a setting, or is this 3rd jack output supposed to be for a spkr set designed with a subwoofer crossover built into it for this special purpose? If the later, I still need to know what to do afa which dvd player to use and how.

I don't know if there are problems enticing sound of these components - its supposed to be like riding a bike, preferably not made of swiss cheese.
