I have to clean of the old heat transfer paste off my cpu, arctic silver has a webpage that says to use isopropyl alcohol to clean everything, I only have denatured alcohol. Will that work or will it completely wipe out everything, destroy my processor, and melt my heat sink?

Usually they say alcohol because it's a good cleaner and it evaporates fast enough for overclockers or heavy computer users (or both) who can't stand/afford down CPU time. If it contains about as much alcohol as isopropyl alcohol (usually around 70%) I'd say it would be OK. Never tried it though so you might want to wait to get a few more opinions.

Acetone is really good for cleaning "gunk" off such as thermal pads and thermal compound. It evaporates fast too. Follow acetone with a cleaning with isopropyl alcohol. I use tape head cleaner for the isopropyl alcohol. I don't really know what denatured alcohol is, so I can't advise you on that.

I wouldnt do that that wil definitely leave deposits of chemicals the die wont like!

Try rubbing alcohol. I have some 91% isopropyl alcohol and I say even that much isnt strong enough to remove a thermal pad. Easily cleans ASII. I usually just use a white eraser to remove the paste and alcohol to clean surface after.
