Well I installed the new highpoint raid agent and it says that my transfer mode is only ata66? but I have two ata 100 drives, how do I switch the drives to ata 100?

I am sorry to say but it is not a matter of "switching" the drives to ATA 100, what it means is your Highpoint Raid controller only handle ATA 66 Cable specs, unfortunately the only way to succeed in getting your ATA-100 Raid would be to purchase a seperate card.

They may possibly be some type of update available from highpoint but... in all likelihood probably not. Sorry, hope this helps a bit.

Ya know Speed.....I could've answered that! Go back to folding! LOL

Actually what my friend said there is exaclty right...the card is capable of 66....the drives are capable of 100....but won't do 100 since they are stuck on a slightly slower card.

Don't go spending a ton of money on a new card...the difference between RAID 0 @ ATA 100 and RAID 0 @ ATA 66 is not that impressive.

Shadow рс & SpeeDj - The Highpoint372 is suppose to be at ATA133 spec so what gives?

Hmm, the highpoint controller I have is for ATA 133? and I have the high density cables and everything.... so why isn't it ata 100?

Well the only other thing I can recommend is entering the BIOS for the Raid control, I believe for highpoints when you see the screen you should press Ctrl+H That should get you into the bios. Poke around in there a bit, they may be a way to change the DMA Mode on the drives and get them up to ATA 100, If that doesn't work please let me know I will do what I can to help you.

Hmm, well I entered the CMOS and made sure they were set to UDMA 5. When I go into the RAID utility it still says ATA/66 I am thinking it is a mistake on their part, I think the drives are in ATA 100. This is what I see in the raid utility

ANyone know how to increase my drive performance? In Sandra a score a measly 25000 :( bleh..

There is at least in KG7 Raid (HPT370) Highpoint BIOS setting utility in menu option 6. Set Disk Mode.

I got it fixed now. I got the new highpoint 2.3 bios impletmented into the 6g bios, and now it comes up as ATA/100. I was reading on the highpoint web page that you are suppose to use the same version of software, as drivers, as bios. So after I upgraded the bios everything seems to be working fine altho, speed hasn't increased at all :(. I don't see a new RCM on their web page either..

Glad you got it fixed...

SpeedDJ. There are drives out there that need to be "switched" to ATA-66 and 100. The newer Fujitsu's and Maxtors both have software that will enable it, just in case it isn't enabled from the factory.

when your highpoint bios screen shows up at startup...does it say "4+" or "4" for for your harddrive? I used to get the same problem. I just flashed a new bios of the hpt website and it fixed everything. also, what version of windows are you running?

slick306

Well, I am running bios version 2.3, and I don't see a 4+ or anything anywhere. The hardrives are now recognized in windows as ata/100... But I haven't seen any increase in performance. I am sitting around 22000 or so in sisoft sandra, I was hoping for around 42ish or so :(..

Windows 98 SE - with highpoint drivers version 2.3, high point bios version 2.3, and RCM veriosn 2.0.1018 (no new version yet), what kind of performance are you gettinging?

with hdtach i usually get 85-90 for the burst. Maybe try a new cable. This is a pretty weird problem.

sounds like your drive is running on ata66 mode...I am using the same bios and driver versions as you. when the highpoint bios thing pops up...what does it say? also if you keep trying but cant fix this, dont worry about it i couldnt even tell the difference when i got my ata100 drive

Well you could always try what Kingslayer suggested above, which I take to mean get a disk utilities from your Hard drive manufacturer. Make the bootable floppy and boot using it, in that program there should be a way to check what the transfer speed of the drive is and a way to change it. If not that's about all I have for options as you have already attempted everything else that I am aware of.

Yeah, I disavled ACPI, and turned off all of the stuff I wasnt using and now in hdtach my burst is over 80 because I can't see the end of the thing....

oh cool so then it is running at ata100 spec, because somwhere between 80-90mb/s is about right. what did you mean you turned off stuff you werent using? you mean applications running in the background?

slick306

Well I freed up a lot of IRQ's. I disabled my comm1, comm2 ports and unused IDE Channels in my bios, and disabled ACPI so windows wouldn't share IRQ's. Also, my system loads a LOT faster now... LIKE TONS. I am going to disable my LPT1 becuase I use network printing anyway..

wow man your blazing. are you gonna keep your setup as it is..with acpi disabled and everything?

slick306

Yeah I think I am... It runs so much quicker now, and I don't have anything that plugs into the comm pors, or printer port. I also moved my DVD-ROM to my highpoint controller and disabled IDE1, and IDE2 channel. I don't know it is weird, I had a hard time getting 25000 in sandra lately, and after I did all this I am up t 43250!! and windows loads quicker without all those extra things loading..
