View Full Version : Where does XP store system restore files??
hi all i was just wondering where XP stores system restore files?? i want to back some up so when i format i have my exact same settings :) thanks in advance!

I'm not sure, but I think it's in the default drive (C: ), in a hidden folder named "_Restore". (at least that's what I think it is, might be wrong)

one hting you could try to do is copy the contents of the _Restore folder in a temporary one, and delete the original files (so be sure to have backups). Now, start System Restore, and check to see if there's any restore point. If there isn't, copy the backups back to the _restore folder, and start System Restore again. (maybe restart just in case). Now, if you see the restore points you had before, then that's the folder. Donno where the folder is in Windows XP, so just put "show hidden files" in folder options, and search a folder called "_RESTORE"
thanks you minoukat i ran a search for _restore but came up with nothing though.. :(
C:\System Volume Information\_restore{loads of numbers}
Each restore point has a number - rp1, rp2, rp3 etc
I found this out by looking at my backup (norton ghost image).
