About games with a plot nowadays??? Everywhere I look it's all multiplayer this, multiplayer that. Op Flashpoint, Counter-Strike, Half-Life, Quake, you name it. Doesn't anyone enjoy an actual story anymore, or must you always have the multiplayer element?.

For example, I'll name Deus Ex as my absolute favourite FPS. Not because it has stunning graphics (they're good tho') or constant frantic action (tho' it does sometimes), but because it actually has a plot, a storyline that draws you in. And it works without requiring more than one player. Virtually all of the above mentioned multiplayer stuff bores me senseless after about half-an-hour, there's very little incentive (for me) to carry on with it, other than bragging rights, which I guess must be important for some :).

Just to me, as soon as you turn something multiplayer, you might as well just have a generic game for it, since it all basically comes down to the same thing one way or another 'kill everyone', 'capture the flag' etc etc.

Just my 2c and I'm maybe just a bit peeved off with stuff at the mo' but I thought it'd make an interesting topic :p

No offence intended to all you frag-meisters out there :D

I agree. RTCW and Max Payne both have very good storylines. I like them some much that I ALMOST bought them. But hell I would buy Max Payne just to play with the bullet time. More so though, the storylines lie in the role-playing games.

most companies create multiplayer games so it's fun for the players and it's harder for them to be sick of the game... so they mike MORE MONEY!! good example is cs.. it's been out for ages.. but lots of people are still buying it because it's a great game... most single plaer games get boring after a while.. so companies aim to make mulitaplyers game so they become famous fot it's next product...

storylines are great and all but the value of a game increases tremendously when multiplayer is added. For games like Baldurs 2, where it takes about 300 hours to complete(doing all the quests), multiplayer is not as important yet it is still avalable. For games like Diablo 2, the story is pretty short abd you just play the same story line on 3 different difficulty levels, you need multiplayer otherwise, Diablo 2 would not be as poplar as it is now.

But sometimes is just nice to relieve some stress and let off some clips into some unfortunate newbies after a rough day... :D But as for d2, after u beat the game thru hell its not about the storyline anymore as it is about finding items, or magic finding. :p

I love a game with a story line. Red Faction (even though the game as a whole sucked), Max Payne, RTCW, Half-Life, Opposing Force, Blue-Shift, Diablo I and II. They all were great games with cool story lines, and a plot, and a main goal at the end.

But most great games, with an awesome plot and storyline don't have a multiplayer half. And that is what is making games today.

Half-Life was a great game both single and multiplayer, something that hasn't really been equalled to this day.

Playing Homeworld: Cataclysm, right now. It's got an interesting story line.

I beg to differ. Good games, but original story? I think not.

Unfortunately, I never got through the training mission. I found the views terribly confusing. Its a very interesting and well though out game, but it just confused me.

The whole reason I played through games like Oni (one of my personal favourites) and Max Payne, is because they had interesting storylines that drew the player in. You're right, not many games nowadays have a good story to help them along.
