View Full Version : I.e. 6.0
Hi,
I have a version of internet explorer which was suplied by AOL I have since went to a cable modem connection and don't want explorer to to be th AOL version. I went to the microsoft site and upgrade to 6.0 but still has the AOL version. Is there a way to get rid of this and have the full 6.0 version without going through a whole rebuild on the drive. Thanks Steve

Wait for someone else to confirm this, but I think you could just go to Add/Remove Programs and uninstall IE. Then pop your Win CD back in and reinstall IE (again, Add/Remove) from that.

You are correct. You can uninstall IE just like any other program through the control panel and then download another net browser to use. Be it IE 6.0 or Netscape, Opra, what ever.
One experience of mine on a side note. I had to remove IE 6.0 and go back to IE 5.5. I had nothing but weird problems after I upgraded to 6.0 I was getting disconnected form my internet connection at random times. (I have road runner cable modem) I wasn't having that problem before and am not having it not that I got rid of IE 6.0 I talked to my network admin at work and she told me a lot of people are complaining about IE 6 not working very well. My explanation....it’s Microsoft....nuf said :D
Thanks for the replys. I never thought of that. I assumed that this was ibedded so deep into the operating system I couldn't remove it. I am running 6.0 on my new machine without any problems. Thanks Steve

I'm using IE6 on my dell, and it's the fastest thing i've ever had on it. I love it! :p
Opera only works for me under linux, in which case it's scary it's so fast!!
