a new heatercore would probably cost as much. so it gives people the chance to buy a new one insead of a old one and clean it.

Would a rad made for cooling the tranny of a dragster work well. I'm just wondering cause about two weeks ago I was at the local shop and seen one made by Crane.

Any core will work great. There are some really small transmission cooler out the market that would work. Some even have mounts that will allow the user to mount to the case and mount a few 120mm fans on.

I've got four heatercores (2 aluminum, 2 copper) and one aluminum radiator, total cost, $0.
Pep Boys does not core, or return, heater cores or radiators, no matter if they are working or not, they all get thrown in the dumpster. You can always ask one to save you them, instead of throwing them out.

Here is a link to a very handy site.
http://www.radac.com/electrocats.htm
Download and install the heatercore database.http://www.radac.com/E-Cats/Radac%20Heater%20Setup12.exe
Use it to find a hertercore that is the right size to fit your needs.
Then go here and find the price using the year and make of the car form the database. www.autozone.com
stepback: autozone.com price for the 1987 ford escort heater core as $29.99. i going to check the brick-n-mortar store to see if they have a cheaper price.

Well to answer this truthfully I get sick of hearing this. I own a small computer store and I don't carry water cooling equipment yet but I'm working on a kit. In my area I can not get heater cores for these prices about the cheapest for me is 22.50$ or so unless I buy it used and I can't sell used ones with a kit (it would look bad). After you add on the hose barbs and have the rad shop install them (I don't own the solder equipment needed for this and it needs to look good for the customers) My cost on the heater core is up to about 30$. now I'm not trying to make a killing but if I sell it for 33$ it barely covers the gas to go pick up the parts. So if I sell it for 35$ you are trying to tell me that I'm trying to rip you off.
You know if you want to do it yourself thats fine and will save you money. There are some people out there including me that are trying to make a professional looking kit and make it easy for those who don't know what they are doing to install it. I'm not trying to rip anybody off and I have to eat also. So I provide a convenience to others who don't want to take the time that I have trying to put this thing together.

When you say sweated on what do you mean by that?
As for soldering, that's easy, roll of solder, pot of flux, blowtorch - fluw up the joint, assemble, heat, solder, solder should flow into the joint. Watertight, very solid and quick.

It's not that is is hard to put in the barbs. I know how to do it. But i'm trying to deal with one of the local rad suppliers to get something custom made like the black ice and it's easier to get them to do the whole thing. Also I dont have the equipment and believe it or not they can do it cheaper than me after the equipment and my time gets added in. I'm looking at mass production not just a few knock off's for friends.
If I can meet my price gaols I'm not sure I'll know more tomarrow. One thing is for sure the black ice rads are most likely way overpriced compared to cost.
Also I fugure my cost for rads isn't to bad as there is no shipping and handeling on top of it.
this one for a 1987 FORD ESCORT was 17.99 at autozone

Ther's the key I'm not using the escort. Like I said it is better sized to fit in a computer case. Most heater cores are so hard to fit in the case and still have things look profesional. My idea is like that of hwlabs but I want it to be priced appropriatly not at 85$ and up for a heater core to fit in a case. Hopefully I'll be much less for a good sized (custom built core) and I do mean custom. I'm going to have to have them built special It won't be quite the same sizes as any car heater core made. I'll have a few sizes allowing for either 1 or 2 120mm fans. The best part is that both sizes should be about the same price. The actual core material isn't that expensive. If all works out well It should be 45$ max for one. I'm hoping closer to 35$ though.
By custom I don't mean just adding barbs either. It will be custom sized cores mounted on the heater core tanks. The barbs are just a bonus.
webmedic I understand where you are coming from but there will always be people that would rather buy than make one of there on. good luck with your build;)
