I´m going for 4x2GB sticks on my rig. (DFI X48-TR2)
The idea is to OC a Q6600 to atleast 3,5ghz with silent air.. And I wanna do it with 8GB of RAM. Not because I need to, but because I can.

Can I?

Anyone have an opinion on which brand to prefer?

I was thinking on going for

2 x Corsair TWIN2X4096-8500C5DF Dominator 2x2048MB (tot. 4096MB) DDR2 XMS2-8500 1066MHz 5-5-5-15 *WITH AIRFLOW FAN*

or maybe

2 x OCZ Platinum XTC 2x2048MB (tot. 4096MB) DDR2 PC2-8000 1000MHz 5-5-5-18

or maybe there is something else? Crucial?

Also, in the future (next winter) I would like to be able to run a cpu with 1600 fsb so the RAM should be competent enough to run close to those speeds. Maybe 1600 is streching it but you know what I mean.

The question remains, which brand should I buy to be able to push the limit with 8GB of RAM?

Thanks for your help. :)

I am running 8G (4x2GB) of G.Skill, I have had my rig up to 400x9 with all 4 sticks, but run 356x9 with the memory at 1068MHz. I would recommend G.Skill Part# F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK or F2-8000CL5D-4GBPQ.

G.Skill looks really good. A bit pricey though as I can´t buy them in Sweden. Finland is the nearest.. :P

Gotta check germany, better prices there. Thanks for the tip. The reviews on G.Skills look really good so far that i´ve seen
:)

edit:
Oh man, the prices. so much better than in Finland.

G.Skill 4GB Kit F2-8000CL5D-4GBPQ
4096 MB Dualchannel Kit, DDR2-1000, 5-5-5-15, F2-8000CL54D-4GBPQ
89,90 EUR
8GB for 179,80 EUR (~280 USD)
or

G.Skill 4GB Kit F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK
4096 MB Dualchannel Kit, DDR2-1066, 5-5-5-15, F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK
124,90 EUR
8GB for 249,80 EUR? (~389 USD)

Is 66 extra MHz worth 70 EUR? (~109 USD)

Do the PC8500 overclock better than the PC8000?

I would get the 8000 sticks and save the money. I have two pair of 8000's and they will both overclock to 1066MHz with ease at the stock voltage of 2.0v. I've even had them as high as 1080Mhz at 2.0v blend stable in Orthos.
