i'm trying to get this thing just a little faster to smooth out some games and such. it's seated in a soyo sy-6iz and all the other components i used in my 750@990 slot-a athlon.
radeon 8500
i took out all but 1 stick pc 133 128mg
300 w psu
onboard sound
pioneer dvd
hp cdrw
i have a couple options in bios but can't boot with anything but 66. only options are 66,75,84 i think.
with softfsb i can hit fsb 75 and get a 600 out of it but i get an error opening windows explorer. can't open any window.
any help would be much apreciated. first time o/c'ing an intel:)

I had two of those puppies on a 75mhz FSB running fine on a BP6,...
Cooling definitely has to be adequate and I would suggest bumping vCore up by 1 tick to maybe cure your Explorer problem...
You can bump up the I/O voltage by a tick as well if necessary, but you may want to consider active cooling on your chipset...

unfortunately i have no bios option to up the voltage.
any other way?

The most your going to get out of that chip is going to be about 600Mhz. That is the core's limit physically. That is why the new Coppermine's were made.
There are two different Celeron 533 CPUs. The older style chip does max out at about 600, but the newer coppermine 533a (flip chip) will usually do at least 800 and sometimes as much as 900 MHz. It makes a difference which one you have.

id say it's the older chip but i don't know for sure. i'm just using it as temporary solution till i get some $$
the problem now is i can't even get 600. i've no way to adjust core voltage and it's not stable at 600 (can't open windows explorer) if i set it to 75x8 in the bios it gives an error while loading windows and tells me to restart. same thing over and over. if i set it from within windows everything seems fine till i need to open a windows explorer window. then kaput.
figured it was a long shot and i'm not really expecting much but worth a try yes?
thanx again.
Even the older style Celeron 533 will "usually" handle 75 FSB. It sounds like a heat related problem. Try removing the heatsink, cleaning it up, then reinstalling with a good thermal paste.
Opening Windows Explorer..
Does that mean like after booting from the system or it has stablity issues in Windows?
If it locks up during loading Windows then your chip is just ... not a good overclocking chip.
If it boots in windows and gives you a message could mean your bumping into a wall like heat or not enough voltage.

It could be the full-speed cache starting to play up @ 600Mhz. If you have the option for it in BIOS it might help to try a slower L2 latency.
