Well guys my laptop isn't even a year old, and it doesn't like to recognize blank cd's. I really want to burn a cd, but when I put a cd in here, it just acts like there's no disk in the drive.

Is there anything I can do?

Can it read a commercial disk like a music CD ok?

It did, but I had to reinsert it once

Could very well be on it's way to dying......once an optical drive goes flakey, you replace it. Less than a year old, I'd think it would be covered under warranty.

It's working now, and I have a 3 year warranty, so I guess I'll wait it out. If I wait until longer, I have a higher chance of getting a better replacement....

I had an HP desktop that would consistently stop recognizing disks of all kinds. My solution was to go into "Device Manager" and uninstall it. It would remove it and then I would hover my cursor over DVD/CD ROM drives, right click, and scan for hardware changes and reinstall it. It seemed to do the trick, never did figure out what was causing it to happen.
