View Full Version : Cooling RAM using Zalman VF1000.....
http://www.ps2cho.net/downloads/photos/8800GT/PCB_msi_8800GT.jpg
Does the MSI 8800GT use the standard PCB?
The Zalman RCH-88 heatsink that fits with the Zalman VF1000 doesn't look like it will work with the MSI design...
take a look:

If you look, the PCB shown is different from mine.
What should I do to cool my RAM and voltage components?

Just get aftermarket RAM sinks that'll fit under that HS.

I guess I'll have to get some super low profile ones.
What about the voltage components. How do I know which ones need to be cooled?
Also, does 40c idle sound about right for this heatsink at stock clocks? My room is on the cool side right now ambient-wise. I'm just in a t-shirt.

40c idle sounds about right. Mine idles around 48ish and loads up around 60-ish.

This might show you a little. Basically cool all those little chips that come in groups of 3. Also cool that chip on the back of the card (1).
EDIT:I figured with the Enzotech Low profile sinks ($15) + 1 set Zalman + 1 set vreg = $29...it would be a lot cleaner, and probably perform better with this instead:

I'll definitely review this one!!!
$45 shipped from sidewinder computers.

I use the Zalman VF1000 on my GTS and idle is 34 C, load is 47 C with FUR
I use these sinks and they fit nicely under the cooler, about 1-2mm to spare, they are cheap and work really well

I'm guessing yours is 100% Copper and Mine is copper core+heatpipes with aluminum fins.
6c is a big difference.

the zalman rch-88 heatsink is ment for the older G80 gts and gtx if im not mistaken...

Ya thats why I went for the iandh custom heatsink set. I want my 8800GT to look real clean too which is the main reason why I spent a little more than I originally wanted to.

tbh thoes enzotech heatsinks dont look all that effective, they dont have nearly the same surface area as even the little zalman ramsinks, and they are a one piece design wich leads to bad contact over multiple components if your using a thin thermal paste.
EDIT... OUCH 39.99 for that setup... not to dog on ur purchase man but dang thats a crapload for some ram sinks. and 6061 aluminum... thats structural stuff... not the best for heatsinks.

I know man LOL. As long as something is covering the right parts I'll be fine. This saves me a lot of hassle and it looks great.
Well I got the heatsink today!
Its REALLY good quality. Unfortunately, it does not fit my Zalman fan
I am going to have to get it cut where the heatpipes are hitting it.
Damn there is almost no room for a heatsink at all... :(
